I think what people dislike is those who don't pay their fair share. Nobody I know thinks being rich is a bad thing, just being rich at the expense of others, which is irresponsible and, in my opinion, unAmerican.
Oh please...the "rich" (top 10% of earners) pay over 70% of taxes. Is that NOT a fair share?
How about the 50% that don't pay ANY taxes?

Having a rich class gives the lazy entitlement types something to hate. They don't seem to realize if they'd get off their lazy butts, they, too, could have something.
The majority of the public can work as hard as they want and they will never be wealthy, in fact the system is designed to make them fail.
Your nonsense notion that hard work brings wealth is very funny. I wonder is nurses work hard, or truckers, or marines or landscapers. No, in your world it seems only criminal bankers and drug addict radio announcers who play golf most of the time are hard workers.
