I guess even white liberals have their limits.

Quote:
About 650 of the nearly 1,700 schools in the system have populations that are 70 percent a single race, a New York Times analysis of schools data for the 2009-10 school year found; more than half the city’s schools are at least 90 percent black and Hispanic. Explore Charter is one of them: of the school’s 502 students from kindergarten through eighth grade this school year, 92.7 percent are black, 5.7 percent are Hispanic, and a scattering are of mixed race. None are white or Asian. There is a good deal of cultural diversity, with students, for instance, of Haitian, Guyanese and Nigerian heritage. But not of class. Nearly 80 percent of the students qualify for subsidized lunch, a mark of poverty. The school’s makeup is in line with charter schools nationally, which are over all less integrated than traditional public schools.

Tim Thomas, a fund-raiser who is white and lives in Flatbush, writes a blog called The Q at Parkside, about the neighborhood. He has spoken to white parents trying to comprehend why the local schools aren’t more integrated, even as white people move in. “They say things like they don’t want to be guinea pigs,” he said. “The other day, one said, ‘I don’t want to be the only drop of cream in the coffee.’ ”

This is a problem I've highlighted on this board before, the notion among Blacks that speaking well is acting White.

Quote:
“I think they would stop calling me white girl if there were white kids,” she said. “Because my skin is a little lighter and I can’t dance, they call me that. Some of them can’t dance, either.”

What else?

“I could talk the way I talk.”

Other students speak street slang that she repudiates: “They will say to me, ‘You are so white.’ I tell them, I have two black parents. Do I look white?”

She had been having trouble making friends. This year, her mother noticed a speech change. “She’s slacking off more to fit in,” Ms. Kingston said. “She’s saying: ‘I been there.’ ‘I done that.’ ”

Let me go out on a limb here and say there's no middle class in NYC. If you can afford to live in NYC with a family, you are either wealthy and send your kid to a private school or you are poor and subsidized and your kid goes to a public school. I bet rich black kids and rich Asian kids also go to private schools. The issue should be why do public schools in NYC stink so much that anyone who can afford to go elsewhere, does.

White liberals and black underclass have a kind of symbiotic relationship. The underclass in effect provides many of the GS-15 jobs that make the DC region the richest in the U.S. The white liberals in turn provide food stamps, section 8 housing, etc.

But this doesn't mean that the white libs are going to send their kids to school with the underclass. As Edward states, 'even white liberals have their limits.' It could make a good movie--it could be called "Guess who's coming to school?"

Segregation, just moves families around.

Here, the white neighborhoods in the 70's that were bused into bad schools, moved and those once nice middle class neighborhoods, turned to slums & barrios. Within 10-15 years it was all segregated again.

Why would I want to dumb down my kids education so no "Kid is Left Behind" ?

Even educated Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Whites don't want to send their kids to many of these inner city schools.

Heck, it's not just NYC. It's all over the US. When middle class families move the first thing they look at is the school their kids will be going to. That is the deciding factor on where they will live.

Bingo!

Around Austin, the wealthy are flocking to wealthy school districts, where there are no middle class or poor to bus in. Eanes and Lake Travis school districts out perform Austin Independent school district, in every aspect and double.
Austin is growing around those districts and will soon be wanting them into their system. Not going to happen.

Rich White liberal kooks have no problem forcing integration on the "lower classes", yet segregate themselves and their children from diversity at all costs. At least the hipster creeps have no qualms about living in "diversified" areas, even though they are unknowingly gentrifying these areas and displacing the underclasses that exist there.

Same thing happened in South Africa. The liberals vote to end apartheid and give up all governing power, only to leave the country a few years later while the middle class and farmers that stayed get murdered/raped by the savages.

Busing wasn't a big issue here in Phoenix cause this place was pretty much white when I was going to school in the 1970's and 1980's. I lived a year by Chicago around 1973 but was only 8 so I have little memory of that.
