Western civilization dumped monarchy in favor of democracy over the last couple centuries because we wanted more liberty and equality, but we have not gotten either. We are far less free now than the colonists were under King George. Our nanny government literally tells us how to sneeze and wash our hands, and insists on touching our junk before any long voyage.
I am optomistic that eventually version 2.0 of John Locke, Adam Smith, and Thomas Jefferson will come along with a new form of government that will work better than what we've got. Unfortunately it will probably require another bloody revolution to put in place. Yet another reason not to discard the 2nd Amendment.

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I'm all for baseball, motherhood, the flag and the American way, but to tell you the truth I don't see democracy getting us out of this mess. What am I missing?
God
[or so I've heard but I think it's something else]
Has any civilization existed that didn't end in tyranny?
Your question contradicts your previous post. In that post you claimed that "terminal" doesn't fit the analogy, and in this post you suggest that "terminal" applies to all forms of government.
If you get most of your news from blogs and forums such as this one, you'd think the entire country is about to collapse. Keep things in perspective, and don't take opinion news too seriously.

Well, it's all terminal in the long run. I just mean that America may not, necessarily, be on the brink of extinction due to our present ills.
