I originally wasn't going to suggest this one because I thought that it was more of a National Day of Prayer Song - which it was originally was(in 1993). Then I heard the lyric "the blessings of the land we love are really gifts from you" and realized that this is true - the United States has only prospered because of its traditional dependance on the Lord's will and care - and that we are only declining now because we have turned our back on the Lord. So what better choice than "Heal Our Land" to bring America back to it's godly roots and to credit and advance our successes to Hm and according to His purpose, Amen.
The Star Spangled Banner is a nice song, but I think that there better patriotic songs that could represent us as a people. Really, our current national anthem is about a battle that occurred during a war we really had not business being in. Not to mention it was a war in which we tied.
I'm not a huge fan of "God Bless America" because I prefer to keep religion (and God) out of politics. "America the Beautiful" is a song I like, but it also has references to the Almighty
Personally, I'm a fan of "This Land is your Land."
The song is inclusive of all our people and all the regions of this country.
What says you?
***Also, let's not turn this thread into a nasty one where people insult each other's patriotism for being too liberal/conservative/right-wing/left-wing etc etc etc...
This one gets my vote. It will sound great playing at the Olympics.
