Jim Crow also served as a form of economic protectionism, by protecting busineses who discriminated against blacks (despite that not being in their economic interests) and preventing blacks from opening their own businesses to compete against established white businesses. It was fundamentally elitist and a form of "corporate welfare"
Sorry but the legal restrictions put in place on greatly responsible for racial divisions we see in America today.
If it was human nature there would have never been a need for laws that prohibited interracial marriage. and if was natural then the rate of interracial marriages and population of interracial children would not be increasing in this country since the removal of those prohibitions.
Actually if you study 17th century American colonial history there was no legal racial segregation and no limit of on interracial marriage until after the mid 1650s. The reality is there was a conscious effort by power structure in the American colonies to create a race based social structure whereby Black Americans were on the bottom to justify their enslavement. They did this with laws and they did this by emphasizing physical the differences of Black people and White people and by putting forth the theory that negative personal characteristics where inherent in Black people.
By the way I live in Lansing Michigan it's a pretty diverse town there are really no "Black neighborhoods" or "White neighborhoods" per say. People tend more to live by their income level than racial identity.

As for Lansing, it's a college town and the seat of Michigan government. It's hardly comparable to Livonia, Inkster or even east Dearborn. A trip down Tireman will confirm what I say about two different worlds.
Of course exceptions like Ferndale and Westland are out there too, but to say Jim Crow laws are still responsible for the others is crazy.

What does it matter if you're right or wrong? You're in such a small minority that things will never change. And your opinions are so radical that no one with whom you associate takes them seriously. So, with respect, what do you matter?
Another example would be with Hispanics. The majority of them are defenders of illegal aliens and want amnesty for them simply because the majority of them are ethnically like themselves. If a loyal, law abiding Hispanic dares to want our immigration laws enforced and therefore wanders off the La Raza plantation they are called "coconuts or vendidos". In otherwords ethnic traitors.
Unlike "Black" people; Hispanics can be of any race. Tho the La Raza ones are usually white and Indian mix.
There's nothing to discuss. It was our "Dark Age" and one of the biggest blights on our history. Germans had their Nazis, and we have our bigots. Both are a result of people's ignorance and small mindedness. Until we resolve the hurts we have done, and continue to do, we are ALL affected by this ugliness.
One need only look at our demographics of our workforce, our education levels, our poverty victims to see what we have done to people of color in this country. It is a credit to African Americans, and Hispanic (though I recognize they are not the topic here, they suffer the same) that they do as well as they do, given the White's oppressive decision making at every level of their lives.

I see so most whites today are oppressing blacks and Hispanics?
Why do people put so much emphasis on "diversity"? History shows that problems have always arisen when people of different races are forced together. We "self-segregate" because we're instinctively told to do so. Most white people live with other whites and blacks with other blacks. What's wrong with that?
The greatest empires have had the more diverse populations.
