Get real, hotair. This is so typically American--always in a rush, can't wait 60 seconds for someone to write out a check. No grocery where I shop regularly asks for ID. Chill.

Then more people will follow behind me and he ends up stuck there for a few moments. Honestly, he wouldn't mind, as this doesn't always, always happen every single time --- what we both resent is that these folks act like this is his job. Not one of them turn, acknowledge he is being nice and say, "Thank you." Once I held the door open for my mother. Sure enough, out of nowhere, a couple of teenage, smart-aleck girls rudely cut in front of her and waltzed out. I was so annoyed, I yelled out after them, "You're welcome!!"
They just want to have a good looking guy like your hubby open the door for them

Actually, being rude is typically American. Being courteous is relatively foreign to us, as you indicate.

4. Treating service providers as inferiors
5. Jokes or remarks that mock another's race, gender, age, disability, sexual preference or religion
6. Children behaving aggressively or bullying others
7. Littering (including trash, spitting, pet waste)
8. Misuse of handicapped privileges
9. Smoking in non-smoking places or smoking in front of non-smokers without asking
10. Using cell phones or text messaging in mid-conversation or during an appointment or meeting.

While I agree with all of these, they are not my top 10.

These three would make my top 10 are
1. Unsolicted opinions (before you say it - CD is soliciting for opinions)
2. People who still use checks at check out lines
3. People who put their feet or shoes on the top of seats at a movie theater.

Does anyone disagree with any of these or would like to add other behaviors?

If you are tired of rude people and rude behavior, I highly recommend watching the movie God Bless America. It's got some over-the-top violence but holy hell it was funny and a smart commentary on the state of our culture.

Trailer doesn't do it justice:

I'm with you; that's why I stopped holding doors, respecting my elders, etc. I had it; those were too many years trying to be nice just to discover that I'm always on the losing end. Granted: I don't feel like much of a man, but I fit in. And that feels a lot nicer than being frustrated by rude people.

Trying to be good when everyone around you is wicked is an invitation for trouble.

I don't like check writers. AT LEAST have the check partially filled out before the cashier starts to ring you up. Have your ID ready too!
