Originally published in 1944—when Eleanor Roosevelt supported the efforts of Stalin, and Albert Einstein subscribed lock, stock, and barrel to the socialist program—The Road to Serfdom was seen as heretical for its passionate warning against the dangers of state control over the means of production.

For F. A. Hayek, the collectivist idea of empowering government with increasing economic control would lead not to a utopia but to the horrors of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

I find it almost unbelievable that this thread appears now so close to the one that was a poll about abolishing states rights. That abolishment would be aimed at just what you are suggesting. It would bring on government over the west coast by a group situated on the east coast with nothing but bureaucrats enforcing regulations made by other bureaucrats in DC.

How many here have any idea that Eleanor Roosevelt and Einsten were both socialists? I think that many of our social thinkers will be glad to find that they are so much like Eleanor.
