If you try to read between the lines it's easy to see what he means with the comments regarding Maddow. If someone (i.e. you or me) were to tune into her show we would be presented with a lesbian newswoman. Do you think that all newsmen (or women) want to dress up nice, put on a tie, makeup, etc? It is just a part of the job. Now, I know Maddow isn't going over the top... but, if she dressed and acted more lady-like then she would gain more credibility, and better ratings.
What utter nonsense.
I take it you only believe the news when it is read by a Barbie doll, then?
Mitt Romney is between a rock and a hard place. While he has the votes of the religious right, he can't risk saying anything that could reduce their enthusiasm about voting for him, especially since he is viewed by many as a social moderate and since many are skeptical of Mormonism. He also has to appeal to more centrist independents, of course. He did express regret and sorrow over Grenell's departure from his campaign. While he didn't defend him to the extent I would have liked, I respect that he is in a tough spot.
The day after Obama came out in support of gay marriage and Romney reiterated his opposition to gay marriage, Romney spoke out in support of gay adoption rights. So he is not entirely willing to bow to the demands of the religious right.
Look, JazzyTallGuy, we have had heated conversations sometimes - particuarly on the Elections forum - but I agree with you on this issue. I am a socially moderate Republican and am for gay rights and have no problem with gay marriage. But I hope you understand that every politician has to choose his or her words very carefully. It's just a sad reality. Obama does the same thing.
Basically, what this entire post is reiterating is that Romney is too cowardly to state what he really believes. Instead, according to you, he only pretends to agree with the bigots (i.e., he can't risk saying anything that would offend them) so the bigots in his own party will not abandon him. If anything, what you have posted here is more a reason to reject Romney than to vote for him.

He is clearly against gay marriage and has been consistently, so he's not merely pretending to agree with the religious right on that issue. However, he has supported other rights for gays (like repealing DADT, domestic partnerships, adoption rights, etc.) consistently.
Look, Obama has done the same thing on many issues, including on gay marriage ironically. He was "against" it (even though he really was for it, as he was in the 90's; he just didn't want to lose support among black evangelicals or religious Hispanics or lose the little support he had among working class whites), but thought states should be allowed to decide to legalize it (so he didn't lose support among social liberals). Then he came out in favor of it, but still thinks states should be allowed to decide to ban it (so he doesn't lose too much support among black evangelicals or religious Hispanics or even more support among working class whites).
It's unfair to consider Romney a coward unless you consider Obama a coward as well.
I do not believe you know several gay Republicans.
I do, actually. I am gay. Most of my friends are gay. And in fact about 10% of gay men are republican. We went out for drinks today and made a few jabs at one of our buddies who is republican and is rather LOUD about it. For god sakes my ex boyfriend is a republican. lol.
Believe what you wish, but it isn't exactly other-worldly to know a few gay republicans.
