Two incidents this week in which police used Tasers to subdue nonviolent suspects have thrust the popular stun gun into the spotlight again and raised new questions about the device's use and potential misuse by law enforcement officials.
Monday, police in California shocked a 15-year-old autistic boy with a Taser. Two days later, during a speech by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., at the University of Florida, officers Tasered a 21-year-old student who refused to stop asking the senator questions.

Does tasering the US Senate during hearings count? I've given up on the possibility of ejection seats. You know those hearing speeches, where it's all about them and it's hard to find the question...if there even is one --- a little non-partisan zap to the blowhard from a taser couldn't hurt. Let's see 11% approval rating. I'm thinking 89% of Americans might agree.

I saw on the news where a woman in handcuff was repeatedly tasered by a cop. She felled down and banged head head against the car while the cop kept on using the taser on her. It made me sick. She was handcuffed and couldn't possibly have been a danger to anyone. The cop treated her less than he would an animal. What a f*cking coward! Typical cop behavior.
NYC considered throwing nets over distraught or out of control people back in the seventies. Cops around that time would calm down recalcitrants by the application of a little wood. Not to the head (people keep on fighting when you hit 'em in the head) but to the knees. That brings folks to the ground.
I think those tasers have probably saved some lives and some bruises.
Are cops using tasers too often, I think we are seeing their use become more wide spread simply because more police are using them now. They leave no marks, they are non lethal, and they are quite effective. I would hope there would be strict guidelines on their use and appropriate punishment for officers who abuse them. Many police use their tools responsibly but it is those instances where they are abused that of course get the most attention, but what is most appalling is that in those cases, police are often handed down reprimands and administrative punishments that no where near address the misuse of their powers. So thus people lose faith in police and the systems of justice.
Keep in mind, a taser is in essence a cattle prod without the stick. So that should tell you something people, that you are cattle to be herded and controlled like a non sentient piece of meat.
Brattleboro, VT had a nasty bit of news when some officers tasered two protesters. The little state never had more news about nothing, but the use of the tasers were totally out of line.
It was a bad week for the "Brat" -- killed a baby bear and tasered two folks. The selectmen/women were in a tizzy.
Apparently, the news carried the story widely and said that the taser can be lethal!

Ha....that's an interesting concept. If somehow each congressional seat could be rigged to an "American Idol" like voting system, in which if enough of your constitutions call in, you can be buzzed out and a trap door opens.
Tasering. Consider this, Tasers are a way to subdue people in lieu of deadly force. Would you rather be tasered or shot.
cops have a LOT to do and very little time to do it- we can scrutinize their decision in instant-replay fashion when they litterally have to make life or death decisions in less than a second.

*Sigh*
David, just like a lot of things the actions of a few doesn't determine the actions of the many. What about all the great work the police do? Where's the airtime for that. It's a thankless job 99% of the time. I'm in no way saying the police can do no wrong, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
That Warren, Ohio tape was pretty brutal, kind of obvious that some of this usage is out of control.
Gee, a good control tool being misused, what a surprise. I feel sorry for the police who benefit from this tool sparingly and appropriately, being put the defensive by some jerks.
