I'd call this one a DBP, wouldn't you?
Less than 3 hours? Clue: Not everybody sits on their computer all day. Some people actually work or otherwise have other things to do. Not everybody is an internet slug, doncha know.

At least one of the skills I learned as a 'Nam River Rat had very limited use in civilian society. The GI Bill helped a lot because it paid the lot rent in the trailer park. The rest I worked for as a prototype machinist.

I would eliminate private sector college loans completely and replace them with direct government loans at the Federal interest rate. Loans would be available for as long as the student remained in school. The loans would be paid back with a permanent surcharge on the student's income tax that would remain even after the principal was paid back.

It als eats up way too much of our budget. Peace thru superior firepower yes.
Being the worlds police dept , hell no.

Back in the day my parents made too much to qualify but didn't have any money saved to pay for school because it was too expensive, caught in the middle so I had to work my way through. That is unheard of by many today. Actually the "middle class" are the ones left out in the cold. Lot of folks make decent money and get by but can't afford the cost of school for their kids nowdays and they also can't qualify for grants and the like because they make too much money according to the government. I got one who's turning 16 this year and the cost of college has me wondering about robbing a bank or two. lol

You are so right about this KC. I have two currently Seniors in College and the third entering freshman year this fall. As a single parent doing it all myself, receiving any grant would be welcomed, but its not possible at all, If you make over I believe $75K, you are SOL. The Government no matter the party affiliation really does not look out for the Middle Class (not just those at the lower end). I just breath and pray through it and try not to look at my credit report. Too depressing.

Can't believe I'm agreeing with you again.

And pays them for it.
And no, it doesn't teach everyone those things.
Why didn't they learn them at home and why am I paying them, as adults, to learn those skills.
The fact that the population is paying them to learn basic skill makes it welfare.

What well-being of the US are they contributing to? Illegal and immoral wars? Deaths of over 100,000 Iraqi's as a start?

Everything is handed to them in the military: food, shelter, clothing, education, medical, etc.
It's welfare.

That is certainly possible for a single person, living at home or even on campus, but this particular woman has a child. That could influence how long it will take her to get a degree.

And, by the way, a Pell grant doesn't even come close to providing 'FREE' education, as the OP suggested!
