Tweakers tend to be hyperfocused in between periods of scattered thoughts. I know this because my son used meth for several years. My brother and my husband's step-cousin are also methheads with similar experiences/behaviors.

I functioned, albeit at 50%, on marijuana for several years. I did not spend my time on the sofa. I did spend a lot of time losing things and driving people around me crazy because my brain was half asleep.

But it did take almost 6 months to fully regain the ability to carry on a conversation and not get lost, once I quit.

I smoked a LOT.

Still, it does affect different people differently...some people become agitated, others fall asleep. Some are barely affected at high doses, others are intolerant because of allergies/side effects.

Your experience is not representative of the experience of the population at large. Perhaps some form of undiagnosed brain damage exists, or you were incoherent before smoking weed?

Sitting around all day smoking pot is a poor choice on your part. You chose to not do something more productive, and you chose to smoke excessively.

I smoked for about 4 years, no brain damage, no prior incoherence. I smoked in HS, then smoked as a young adult for another year, then quit. I didn't 'sit around all day' and smoke it, I went to school and held a job. But once I moved away from the abuse in my household, I no longer needed to self-medicate.

I chose to start, and I chose to stop.

Still, I'm amazed at the denialists on this thread who don't understand the basic effects of cannabis.

Knowing what I do, experiencing what I (and others in my family) have, I can't say I support legalization, or at least not completely. Some people can handle it...others have major problems functioning while under the influence.
