Well, 4% isn't really meaningful, is it? You can find that more than 4% of the population of the US think the sun revolves around the Earth or that Hitler is a fictional character.
However, years ago I met an elderly gentleman in Germany who had encountered a burglar in his kitchen at 3 a.m. Since this gentleman was in his 70's, he figured that he'd be no match for the much younger burglar - and decided to arm himself with a bottle of beer that he subsequently broke on the burglars head.

A. Bear Spray (WTF is bear spray?)
B. Closed fist on buttocks - naked buttocks at that.
C. Wife winning the World Cup with thief's noggin.

i am going to out on a bit of a limb here and suggest that you two have not been the victim of a crime where someone put a knife or gun in your face, right?
personally i think the robber got everything he deserved and less. instead of kicking the robber, the wife should have beat him with a golf club. people think that just because the robber had a knife there was no threat to the life of the store owner or his wife, and that is simply not true.
the reality is that when someone sticks a weapon of any kind in your face, you have two choices, submit to their demands and hope they dont try to harm you in anyway, or two defend yourself and try to beat the ever living tar out of the criminal.
remember that in england in feudal times, citizens not only had the right, but the responsibility to go after these outlaws(called that because they operated outside the law).
