The school board voted to stop the use of a book on families in a bullying program because of 1 line. "Some families have two moms or two dads."
This book also talks about step parents, adoption, interracial children, and traditional families. It does not discuss sex, or sexual orientation at all.
Good. You can teach kids about not being bullies without resorting to a lesson on homosexuality. You don't need to reference Heterosexuality either. When I was taught the "Golden Rule" in school I didn't need to know Johnny's Mommy was his Daddy and vice versa.

Right.
There's always an agenda.
I wonder if the book includes things like, "Some families have a daddy and 8 wives" or "Some families have a daddy who boinks goats"?
My wife & I taught our (now grown) children not just to NOT bully, but to stand up and fight for people who ARE being bullied. And it had NOTHING to do with any political or agenda-driven motives.

How is this referencing homosexuality, or heterosexuality? It simply states different family structures.
If it's a book on bullying then stick to the topic. No need or reason to get into other social issues.
I was kinda hoping to see that "Twilight" was banned in schools when I came into this thread.
Reading about vampire sex in schools is not helping to solve our literacy problems.

Where did I go off topic? The book was banned because of one line in the book. The line was "Some families have two moms or two dads." That is the specific reason given at the school board meeting.

That IS going off topic. Take out that one sentence from the book. Did that change the book ? NO. That one sentence was not needed.
It should be banned. We shouldn't be teaching children not to bully kids who have gay parents. If anything, we should be teaching our kids to bully children in those types of "families" more.
