(Reuters) - UnitedHealth Group Inc, the largest U.S. health insurer by market value, said it would maintain the health coverage protections included in President Barack Obama's healthcare law regardless of how the Supreme Court rules on the legislation.
The provisions UnitedHealth will maintain include continuing to provide coverage for dependents up to age 26 under their parents' plan.
The company will also continue to offer certain preventive healthcare services without requiring a co-payment, which include annual check-ups, screening for high-blood pressure and diabetes, and immunizations.
UnitedHealth will also continue to forgo lifetime dollar coverage limits on policies.
"The protections we are voluntarily extending are good for people's health, promote broader access to quality care and contribute to helping control rising health care costs," UnitedHealth Chief Executive Officer Stephen Hemsley said in a statement. "These provisions make sense for the people we serve and it is important to ensure they know these provisions will continue."
Sounds good to me. A lot of what they would keep has been dissed on this forum.
IF (and that's a big IF) they choose to provide these options to their customers after the travesty against our rights known as Obamacare is ruled unconstitutional, then more power to 'em.
Nobody I know, regardless of how vehemently they're against Obamacare, would ever say that an insurance company shouldn't be able to provide these options to their customers at their own will. The problem comes in when the government forces them to do so.
See the difference?

Reason: typo
Very smart move on their part.
No doubt their people have run the numbers and determined that it is not just a sound decision from a public-relations standpoint but from a financial one as well.
A bigger, healthier pool of insured people means lots more profit for them.

Exactly.
Businesses, their employees, and insurance companies should have choices....what insurance companies cover and what insurance employers provide (if they provide insurance at all) should be their business, ideally not the government's business at all - but certainly not the federal government's business.

not everything is rosey
we will ALLOW you to keep kids until 26...fro an added COST
we will allow you to get PM without a co-pay...but you premium will go up
we will allow pre-existing.....but you are higher risk...costs more

And that's exactly how it should be. If insurance companies want to offer these extra benefits, they should and customers should decide whether or not they want to pay the added costs.
The parts of Obamacare that people really want to see repealed haven't gone into affect yet so their negative aspects haven't been felt by most people.

Yet people still disapprove of it by large margins according to virtually every poll
