I may not even live to be old enough to collect from those funds! Social Security is a crap shoot with big winners and big losers. there are some who contributed very little, but b/c they are married to someone who did contribute, they will draw on that all of their lives, well beyond the original extorted amount. then there are those who contribute and in a cruel irony, die in their 40s, 50s or 60s and and NEVER get to collect. It is the biggest socialist redistribution of income know to mankind, taking from those who work to those who choose not to.

Whatever SS I get is what I put in and not you!!! I worked for 40 years and I'm entitled to every dime that was taken out of my pay!!!!!

AMEN to that. There are ways SS can be fixed without americans suffering.
All it takes is someone with a brain and a heart.

I'm sorry but, there was no "surplus" in Social Security under Clinton - Social Security was then, as it is now, scheduled to "implode" if actions are not taken to correct it.

Once again though, I would ask you - please, tell us one proposal - anything, that the Democrats have done / put forward, to bring Social Security healthy again? Anything??????

Nope - never have been employed by the Federal Government -

Always been self employed -

BTW, Federal employees have access to "FERS" (Federal Employees Retirement System) - they have a choice - to contribute all to social security or contribute part of their retirement deductions into a 401K type program

Why should all civilian employees have the same right and choice??

Again, this was 20 + years ago - I filed a "CO" (conscientious objector) status. I had to go to SS – IRS gave me a hard time for a while – but eventually, I got all the money I had paid into the system back.

I started investing a similar percentage of my income as would have been withheld / paid into the system (I’m self employed) – and boy, am I farther ahead. Additionally, whatever is left over when I die, I can pass on to my heirs – you can’t do that with SS

YOu know it is risky investing and you could loose everything.

But, it is my choice now, isn't it? Getting out of bed in the morning is risky too - but, I get out of bed in the morning.

BTW, I will not "lose everything" Mary -

Once more, if you could get all of the money back that you contributed in one lump sum, would you support dissolving SS?
