“It’s time America realized that there was no gay exemption in the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the Declaration of Independence” — Barry Goldwater
We had our chance in '64. A classically liberal major party nominee.
Barry again, same link:
Quote:
“Government governs best when it governs least — and stays out of the impossible task of legislating morality. But legislating someone’s version of morality is exactly what we do by perpetuating discrimination against gays.”
I am a Goldwater Republican. Probably a handful of us left.
There was a time when conservative Republicans believed in limited government.
Does the fact that something of questionable morality mean that it's okay as long as two consenting adults agree upon it?
What about bank robbery? Bonnie and Clyde? Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid?
You might laugh, but many people have viewed these people as "heroes." They are not much different from Wall Street Occupiers demanding free stuff, or the paid unemployed young people in London who were vandalizing retail shops trying to steal luxurious merchandise.
Homosexual couples are already allowed to an alternative marriage in any state of their choosing. The only thing that they are not receiving is more "stuff" in the way of monetary benefits (which normal married people are entitled to), which they have somehow twisted into calling "civil rights."
You keep bringing up normal. Normal doesn't mean anything. Reality is made up of shades of gray, not black and white. So when the day comes that being a bible believing christian is viewed as abnormal, will you still crusade against equal rights for those not 'normal'?
All of the homophobic rantings on here have one thing in common. They see gays as some abhorrent, sub-human group, and the thought of "them" being their equals scares the crap out of them.
If everyone were equal the homophobes would lose their self appointed "special" status and would have to be just like everybody else.
They're so afraid that they can't even formulate a rational argument.
Yeah, if gays are considered equal, who would they have to hate?...Who will be next on the list? Atheists?
It must be awful, being a homophobe. Having to spend all that time obsessing about what gay people might be doing with their genitals. Seeing it in your mind, over and over again, in high-definition close-up. Bravely you masturbate, to make the pictures go away, but to no avail. They're seared onto your mental membranes. Every time you close your eyes, an imaginary gay man's imaginary penis rises from the murk, bowing ominously in your direction, sensing your discomfort. Laughing. Mocking. Possibly even winking. How dare they, this man and his penis? How dare they do this to you? Charlie Brooker: Some people are gay in space. Get over it | Comment is free | The Guardian

You are forgetting the other adults who own, operate, work at, and conduct business at, the bank during the bank robbery.
[they are not consenting to the robbery and/or associated actions by the robbers]

Did the bank employees consent to be robbed and placed at great personal harm? Did all of the other patrons at the bank during the robbery consent to be placed at personal harm during the incident? How the hell is this related to homosexual couples, exactly?
