What kind of freedom of speech you cannot get in Europe, India, Japan, australia and you get it in USA? Walmart employees have liberty, freedom in China to form a UNION while supposedly FREE USA Walmart employees do not have right to organize, form labor union.

Where did you get the idea that America is "about getting a lot of money and buying a big house with lots of cars in the drive way"????

Dude, you are so far off the track it's almost comical. The TRUE American dream is about being FREE. Is Liberty a foreign concept to you?

If America were to fall under the repeated attacks of the communists, marxists, etc., where do you think you'll get the freedom of speech you now enjoy??:"

Fact is it is extremely rare for some starting at the bottom to move up more than one quintile, much less move up from the bottom quintile to the top quintile.

Bulls*it!!! Thousands of immigrants come every year and make it: send kids to schools, buy houses and prosper. You can't force people to be ambitious and successful that's our problem.

Sadly, the plural of "anecdote" isn't "data". The numbers really are clear - it is much more unlikely for a new generation to jump markedly in income (as compared to their parents) in the US than it is in, say, Germany.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/05/us...pagewanted=all

Yes, it's the NYT, but check their citations. If you're born in the US lower 20%, chances are really, really high you'll stay there. Higher than in most other Western countries.

As for the OP sob story, I sense a certain - shall we say "coyness" - about the jobs that apparently can't be filled. If you can't get people to take $20/hour jobs in "sales" when McDonalds can get people to run a deep frier for considerably less, there's something left unsaid. I have been unemployed in the US (settle down, I lived on my savings) and I learned to sniff out the cold-call-salesman-on-commission-only semi-scams at a mile's distance.

In other words, if the entrepeneurs in the OP offer twice minimum wage and can't retain their staff, well - that's the invisible hand of the market trying to slap some sense into them.

What the hell you talking about, we're talking about ppl that are moving from one income quintile to another. Not someone injected into the system. If these new ppl of yours spend a generation down at the bottom strata of american society and move up they're an exception to the rule. They are part of that 9 out 100.

Ambition alone won't get you a cup of coffee. You need opportunity and the right skills.

Sorry, that's fantasy.

Please substantiate you assertion with evidence or citations. The only immigrants who are in a position to emigrate to the U.S. and soon buy a house are those who come with money. Mexican or Dominican immigrants aren't finding jobs here that allow then to save 20% for a down payment and then payoff a mortgage.

Immigrants lack health care and child care.

Lol. They don't care they work open Chinese food restaurants, start construction comapnies or drive taxis and make money. You have no clue how much motivated immigrants can achieve.
Just look around

So your hypothesis is that the people in the lowest quintile simply like it there? Certainly a novel idea.

Nothing novell about it. Some people have ambitions some don't. Some willing to work harder and some content with the minimum.
