New York Times journalist defends national security leaks - latimes.com

Imagine if we had a news media and others who work in politics/government, more concerned with their own right/left agenda rather than America(ns) back in WW2, WW1 or others. We may not have won. Even if it wasnt a time of war necessarily, leaking certain things out back then couldve really hurt us or our allies.

Today its a much different story. So called news outlets are proud to leak secrets, no matter if they could weaken national security or allies, they dont care. Today, political agendas are apparently far more important. Who cares about the lives and our future being put at stake....

And sorry, but Obama has to take a hit here for this too. He and his Admin really made no attempt to do anything about this until late friday after finally someone asking Obama about it that day. He claimed to be offended, yet if he were so offended, he would instructed investigations to happen a long time ago.

And while I know most media are biased and barely hide their support for this man, perhaps a reporter couldve asked him earlier if he hadnt been continuing his record number of fundraisers with the Hollywood elite. But of course, it shouldnt have taken someone asking him, especially if he were truly offended or concerned. I think the only thing he was offended by was that someone actually asked the question.

Today's media will allow Obama to execute whatever war he wishes without question. He has a right to be offended by questions from the media. They have spent so many days in bed with him, they would appear as ungrateful hoes.

Concerning leaks, that might scorch him in unanticipated ways.

Would you prefer that reporters sit on stories about our government lying to us or about stealing or corruption or whatever? You prefer to remain in the dark? You'd like it if anything uncomfortable or embarrassing were simply designated as a "secret" and remained hidden forever? You don't WANT to know the truth?

I hope you know that a free press is the last line in the defense of your liberty.

And, by the way...I haven't weighed in too much on this hysteria about Obama leaking sensitive information because...well, because it seems to be just more "OMG OBAMA" stuff to me and not worth noticing.

However, I do now want to add a thought which I don't know if anyone else has suggested: Has it ever occurred to anyone that maybe they weren't "leaks" at all, but deliberately done for the benefit of the Iranian's or anyone else who might like to challenge us? It has been done, you know, lot's of times. And, there's also the possibility of disinformation. That's been done before and is a well-known tool of diplomacy and influence.

Can't say if that's what it was but...I'm just sayin'.

Corruption should be reported. Enemies lists should NOT be reported. They do it now with all admins, and had the press acted that way in the 40s, we'd be saluting a swasticka.

The Times had a leak on the Cuban crisis, and suppressed it. Even though the result for us wasn't positive, I'm delighted they suppressed it. That was the moral thing to do.

They did not suppress Watergate. Reporting that was the moral thing to do.

In 2012, we have no indication they care what the moral thing to do is.

I wonder what the Pakistani man who helped us find and get bin Laden who has been assessed a jail term of 33 years would say to you about this story. Maybe he might tell others not to help, but who knows. As for this last round of leaking it appears to me that there must have been a political reason for it all. Maybe someday the real truth about it all will come out of the White House, but it won't be before Obama is gone from the White House.

Corruption, I wouldnt have a problem with. But a lot of this has nothing to do with corruption. In fact, news outlets will do more to cover up for corruption if it helps their own agenda.

Im talking about all the other stuff that comes out. And dont get me wrong here. I dont think Obama is necessarily okay with all this or behind it, but he did absolutely nothing about it until asked.

I have major issues with not only the politicians/government involved in these leaks and not taking them seriously as well as these news outlets leaking them as if there could never be a dire consequence.

Loose lips may not sink ships today, but it can put lives in danger and allies in danger.

When I was in the Navy, and held a high clearance, I took it seriously and was expected to. Not only because I thought it was wrong to not do so, but they made it clear that you could be put away (obviously) for doing so. Yet look how often this crap gets out to the media, that is suppose to be highly classified, and most times you never hear anyone pay for it. A message needs to be sent to get this stuff to stop. Take action. They need to take this as seriously as they expect us lowly enlisted guys were expected to take it!

In the past they would have been jailed if not hung.

Today's liberals are much like today's extreme Islamic fundamentalists- they both seek to undermine and destroy the USA from within.
