It ought to be Christians, not atheists, who stand against defiling the name of their god by indentifying it with a flag.
The whole concept of a pledge of allegiance to the flag is totalitarian and sinister and if I were Christian I would certainly not hesitate to add "idolatrous." "Under God" is the least of what bothers me (an atheist) about it--although of course I don't think that belongs in public schools either.
Vile, disgusting atheist here! Just want to remind you that as a vile, disgusting atheist, it's not possible to hate God, as I don't believe there is one, per se.
As far as Jesus goes, I think he was a pretty cool mortal dude with some fine things to say, so I don't hate him either.
No tears shed on my end. If it makes you happy to have under God in your pledge, then I'm happy for you.
I'm not sure what Jesus would have to say regarding your gross mis-categorization of people who don't believe the exact same thing as you, but no skin off my nose.
I'm off to find some solace in empty platitudes. I know I had some around here somewhere.
"""" I'm off to find some solace in empty platitudes. I know I had some around here somewhere"""
Just look at the christian's bible or recite the Pledge....plenty of empty platitudes !!!
Here's some more question you'll avoid answering:
Why do like "god" symbolized on money? Does that represent the heart of christians? (Nevermind, I KNOW the answer to that!)
Why not have it on the money? Whats the problem with our founding being christian base?
Quote:
IF "under god" is taken out of the Pledge what will happen?
Why should it be ?
Quote:
IF no one ever said the Pledge again what would happen?
We will loose some of our patriotism.
Quote:
IF the Pledge was only said in it's original form what would happen?
It would be patriotic as it is now & always was.

I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about. If "under god" is not promoting religion, what is it?
Here's what Eisenhower said about it: "In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource, in peace or in war."[15]
Why is it a big fuss now, because God is on our symbolism? Are we not majority Christian?
What's been said over and over, in this thread as well as others, is that the number of Christians is absolutely irrelevant to the operation of the government. We have a secular government and a separation of church and state.
I know I've reminded you of this twice. Others have as well.
You are advocating that the government should promote religion when you claim that "under God" should remain in the Pledge because America is "mostly Christian."
Were you not, you would never have mentioned "majority Christian" because it would have added nothing to the discussion.

Because the country was not founded on a Christian base (even if you don't like that fact). Therefore, it is a lie, and these forum discussions usually revolve around truth.
Only an un-patriotic American would try to have our traditions removed.
I always took the phrase "under God" as a symbol for our god given individual rights and freedoms.
