I'm not sure if this wasn't obvious, but Greece isn't Europe. Europe is a Continent, not a country. When is the last time Switzerland, Sweden, or Norway were involved in war?

You heard it here first: war in Europe (again) in just a decade or two time.

Golden Dawn threatens hospital raids against immigrants in Greece | World news | guardian.co.uk
I view nationalism as a natural human condition and don't view it negatively. Greece is a country of 10 million people with about 1 million immigrants many of dubious status. I mean are folks supposed to sit back while their country is overrun? Heck even the Native Americans put up a fight.

Norway was invaded and occupied by the Germans in World War II, Switzerland and Sweden were officially neutral.

OP's argument is false. Both the far left and far right gained in Greece's last election.

Eurozone crisis moves ever closer as Greek left gains ground | City A.M.

If the Greek voter was punishing the "socialists" why would the far left gain as well?

The fact of the matter is Greece's centrist parties would not commit to halting austerity measures the EU had planned for them, so the voters turned to the only alternatives left to the them....far right and far left parties.

This is just another post from a right winger hoping to twist, and use half truths of events in Europe to advance their ideology.

So that would be 67 years for at least three members of Europe while the U.S. on the other hand as a nation has been at war how many times in the interim?

Sheesh. O/P should just not have posted in the manner he did as were it within many peoples decision making thought processes to consider the alternatives presented they might resort to revenge over reason.

Stay the course and suffer through a bunch of years of deminished benefits and austerity. OR

Vote to abandon the austerity measures and re-institute the drachma or whatever with the resultant boot from the Eruopean union AND commence the dominoe effect that will result in the European Union suffering collapse AND the U.S. economy going even further into the tank and along with it Obama's re-election hopes AND possible piecemeal abandonment of the U.S. dollar as the de-facto worlds reserve currency..

summers73: your post serves only to make the second alternative a more attractive option to Europeans who'd just like to wipe the smug, surperior sneer off your face by taking you down with them. A very attractive proposition indeed.

Right now, actually.

Just pointing out, the countries in Europe that are in trouble are the ones who tried the US-style economy. Low minimum wages, minimal social safety nets, deregulated banking sectors. I mean, who seriously looks at Europe and goes "crashing banks with toxic debts, borrowing-fueled national budgets, trying to compete with the third world on wages -thank god that isn't how we do it here!"

That is eaxctly how its done in America. And America did it first. And has excactly the same problems. Having the worlds reserve currency just means the crash can be pushed a bit further down the road than in the meds.

Meanwhile, the northern Europeans with their big state sectors, massive union enrollments, and huge social safety nets are steaming ahead.

This thread is a contender for most ignorant ever.

Europeans are ALL socialists or nationalist, and always will be, so they can never get along. This is so idiotic it only make sense as a message from one ignorant American conservative to an another. Neither would know anything about Europe, but Europe is different, so therefore, evil. Even if the fundamentals of the argument make no sense at all.

I agree with the post upthread. This recession originated in the American subprime industry. If it had not been socialist bail outs by the American government, we'd be falling apart too. Most of the Eurosocialist countries (Germany, France, Scandinavia) rode this one out, because their economies were not experimenting with fraud at a grand scale. It is the corrupt countries (Greece, Italy) and those affected by the housing bubble (Spain, Portugal, Ireland) that have been the problem.

The creation of the EU and the eurozone was a game changer. Now every member must participate in the EU bailouts.

Unlike the OP I do not see war on the immediate horizon but I do see a rise of national socialism in Europe as a result of not only the economic strife but also the open borders immigration policies.

I concur with all you say but do you seriously expect someone who used the word "retard socialist" to even have a modicum of interest in what we European retards have to say on the subject ?

Starting wars in other countries apparently is not retarded at all... As long as you keep your own backyard free of destruction then it really does not matter who does get hurt.

A bit like the Financial Industry which was not all responsible for the recession and economic downturn.... The Capitalist system has proved, so , so successful has it not ? Where did it start, remind me again Baldrick, was it something with sub prime mortgages and American Banks ? Oh yes I think it was. Foolish me, I thought it was all of us European Retards who were responsible....

And we know the American Economy is doing so well too, and apparently Americans are not Nationalist at all... especially those on the right of the political spectrum. Never heard an American coming all misty eyed and "patriotic", waving flags and being insulting about other Nations have you ?!?!

and yet, the OP wants to start a mail order bride business offshore.

not to mention there are 195,000 sites on google for this already. Research is not the strong suit of some.
