Seriously. I just read a thread on the LA times where people were bashing each other based on who they would vote for in the fall. ONE guy out of these hundreds of people piped up and tried to convince everyone to think for themselves and find all the information, not just cherry-picked data from the news media. But NO ONE responded to him. They just kept attacking each other with "*******s" and "teabaggers", with ZERO regard to what he had just said. Then he stated that this country his headed downward and was attacked for being "un-American."

Are we really that stupid now? We can't even have a decent political debate without calling the other side "idiots"? We present each other with "facts" but ignore other info that states the opposite? We vote AGAINST people rather than FOR them? Seriously, there are many that claim to be independent, but are they, or they just trying to avoid being called "Democrat" or "Republican"? Why do people only think that are only two modes of thought that are correct to improve the state of this country? Really, TWO? People are arguing about the presidential candidates yet they have no idea what policies will improve this country. All the while education degrades, healthcare gets worse, transportation falters, but all we do is point fingers and blame the other side. Is America really the best place to live?

I firmly believe that the blame for the current state of this country falls just as much on the President and Congress as it does on the voting public for perpetuating this nonsense during every election season.

And no, don't say Ron Paul. He does have great ideas, but the number of crazy ideas he has puts him out of the running.

The obvious answer is no. Neither side is better than the other, but most people will ignore that. All people want to do is throw stones at the other side and ignore the fact that their side has screwed up in the past.

It is like the Superbowl: my team versus yours. It doesn't matter if your team is going to spend us into oblivion.

If people actually learned their rights, the abuse of the power in DC, the disdain for the Constitution and what said document is about, they might be able to find some common ground. They want their team in power. Sometimes I wonder if it is because they just want to feel better about themselves or if they really give a darn about the country.

People who say they will only vote Democrat or Republican... Even if the candidate from the opposite party might have a better record. It boggles my mind.

Both parties SUCK. There are very few politicians who actually uphold the Oath they took. Think about it: their main duty is to protect the Constitution. If they fail to do so, they need to be removed from office.

This is the product of our education system. Poor literacy, lack of concentration, no critical thinking and follow the herd mentality.

Why do you think Congress and the White House are full of incompetent people who care neither about the average American or the problems facing this country? Perhaps the decline in our education system is a direct result of political sabotage?

Pakistani politicians for years have tried to undermine the education which enables them to keep the population as a whole dumb and unable to understand economics, politics, and the basics of government.

Unfortunately for us, the media is so heavily biased combined with a largely ignorant and undereducated population that, it becomes really easy to sway people's opinions.

And we've done it long enough that the teachers are the product of this very same education and see no problems with it. The older ones...they are just counting the days til retirement. They see the decline but their hands are tied with school mandates tied to federal dollars.

I literally cringed when I saw a young math teacher give full credit for a wrong answer because "he knew what to do".
And you wonder why adults can't budget their own money these days ?

The Fed really did a hatchet job on education with their carrot dangling of $$$$ in return for mandates.

LOL, Those in Congress aren't going to vote themselves out of their jobs. In view of that, I have no idea how term limits for U. S. Congressmen can possibly be accomplished.

Default Does anyone think for themselves anymore?

With regards to politics? No it doesn't appear that they do, it's easier to follow the rest of the herd and allow yourself to be informed rather than trying to inform yourself.
