Sorry John1960 for stealing your job

Lethal Injection: Cruel and Unusual or Justified Punishment? (broken link)

Quote:
All 37 states that perform lethal injections use the same three-drug cocktail. The three drugs consist of an anesthetic, a muscle paralyzer, and a substance to stop the heart. Death penalty foes have argued that if the condemned is not given enough anesthetic, he can suffer excruciating pain without being able to cry out.
Personally: They've caused the victim's families "excruciating pain" that they have to deal with year after year after year.

The ban on "cruel and unusual punishment" was more about intentional torture used prior to killing, or just torture with no intent to kill. If some pain is experienced in the time that the drugs take to do their job, that is not intentional torture.

Maybe we could go back to having an executioner letting heads roll on a platform...

TN had an inmate ride the lightning last week. It was the first time the electric chair had been used since the 70's, at least in TN. It was by the inmates request. Weird choice, but why not go out with a jolt!
