His family is as much Mexican as any other immigrant family from Mexico is. A "hispanic" does not necessarily speak Spanish, believe it or not, there are some who like Romney speak English. Are you claiming that his father did not have Mexican citizenship?

Mexico gives Mexican citizenship to those who are born in Mexico -- and George Romney was born in Mexico. That made him more Mexican than Cesar Chavez who was actually a third generation American. Don't be fooled by the name -- "Fox" as in Vicente Fox might not sound like a Mexican name to you but Vicente Fox was 100% Mexican citizen. Contrary to what many think, "Mexican" is not a race, it is a citizen of Mexico.

Mexican nationality law - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to the 30th article of the Constitution of Mexico, there are two ways in which a person can acquire the Mexican nationality, by birth and by naturalization.[1]

I'll have to disagree with you that Mitt Romney is a Hispanic. Just because his father was born in Mexico does not make Mitt a Hispanic. Hispanic is a culture. Mitt doesn't pratice the Hispanic culture nor does he speak Spanish. A true Hispanic had ancestors from Spain. None of the Romneys had roots in Spain.

Many Chicanos DON'T speak Spanish or do anything "Hispanic". Going by what you're saying but flip the rules: those Chicanos ain't Hispanic.

Not all Hispanics have Spanish blood. A president of one LatAm country was 100 percent Asian, Japanese I think and def "Hispanic".

But their ancestors were from Spain and their primary language was Spanish. They were raised in culturally Hispanic families. Just because some Hispanic-Americans (Chicanos) don't speak Spanish anymore doesn't change the fact that they are Hispanics culturally.

Yes, a person can "adopt" the Hispanic culture but that doesn't make them a true Hispanic. I knew of someone whose ancestors were Irish but he moved to Mexico for many years and became culturally and lingually Hispanic. True Hispanics however have ancestors from Spain and their primary language is Spanish and they practice the Hispanic culture.
