Conservatives have big amygdalas -- and small anterior cingulate cortexes

"According to a 2011 study[2] by cognitive neuroscientist Ryota Kanai's group[3] at University College London published in Current Biology, people with different political views have different brain structures.[4] The scientists performed MRI scans on 90 volunteer young adult people's brains.[5] The results of the study showed that conservatives had a larger amygdala,[6] a structure of the brain associated with greater sensitivity to fear and disgust emotional learning.[3][5] Liberals had increased grey matter in the anterior cingulate cortex,[6] a structure of the brain associated with monitoring uncertainty and handling conflicting information.[3][5]"

That written, this is not to call anyone stupid ... it is simply to point out the basis for political opinionation ... stupid is different

Conservatives operate from fear based perspectives.

What is important about to realize about this is, if you self-identify as a conservative, you need to compensate for your physiology with increased application of rational thinking in order to arrive at productive decisions for social action -- which includes political action.

Remember always that man is a social animal and as such does not exist to sacrifice the many for the benefit of the few. It is science: fear-based self-interest is an anti-social behavior.

It is interesting that science estimates that somewhere between 1% - 5% of the population are psycho/sociopaths. And yet the preferences and drives of such a small percentage typically control world policy.

If you are not psychopathic or sociopathic yet have a tendency to conservatism you might want to ponder this and work on your rational thinking processes.

Best wishes to all

Yeah....this topic comes up about once every two to three weeks, it gets shot down (the "science" behind it has been debunked) every time, it lasts a few pages then gets deleted.

What part of this progression escapes you that you have to come here and post it, yet again?

Yup, every few weeks, an new thread is started that uses junk science to prove how superior liberals are, and how conservatives are cavemen.

This is what the left is forced to resort to, since speaking honestly about their political philosophy and political agenda would send every voter fleeing from them. no one wants a kindler, gentler version of Cuba, North Korea, or Mao's China.

Problem is that liberals seem to have a very high variance of intelligence. The low IQ folks like to vote liberal and so do the overeducated underwater basketweaving studies, lifetime academic folks.

People are taught politicial ideology. It's learned not inborn.

It's not predetermined by genetics.

But libs would love to be able to justify themselves, with such an elitist basis for the "why's and how's" of conservative thought.

"Oh it's in your amygdala, it's so much larger than we 'Normal' people who don't live in fear... Oh yes, that's right we're the rational ones, you're the irrational ones."

OH... speaking of the amygdala. Here's an article that says gay men have an amygdala that's 20% larger than heterosexuals.

I am now waiting for you to tell me those gay men are all conservatives too.
