President Obama apparently isn't keeping yet another promise.

"In 2007, then-candidate Obama said in New Hampshire that he "would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users. It's not a good use of our resources." A 2009 Justice Department memo seemed to confirm as much"

What is the DOJ up to now????

"But their perspective began to change in June when a Justice Department memorandum expressed concern about a recent "increase in the scope" of medical marijuana operations and warned industry leaders that they were in violation of the federal Controlled Substances Act, "regardless of state law." Federal prosecutors say they believe the state's law has become a cover for an increasing number of illegal, large-scale growers and dispensaries to develop for-profit operations that are beyond the original intent of the state law, which was to provide relief to the sick and frail.
On Oct. 7, the four regional U.S. attorneys in California announced that they would begin cracking down on commercial dispensaries. The prosecutors said they are not singling out patients but are concerned about bad actors in a loosely regulated industry with an estimated 500 to 2,500 or more collectives statewide.

Now this I agree upon, this is one promise that he definitely should have kept. I don't know why we continue to waste money and time over medicimal mary jane. Its a travesty.

But I have also said that you cannot trust a politician to keep his word this goes for both Dems and Reps. And anyone who thinks what Romney is promising will happen needs to take off their rose colored glasses.

I remember when Obama was elected there were some folks out there that thought Obama was going to legalize marijuana.

According to one magazine, Atlantic Monthly?, that's his October surprise to energize the potheads to cast an intelligent vote for the pot-smoking, cocaine snorting, mr. obama.

I suppose OP that you think the GOP will also stop fighting against medical marijuana too? LOL. Or are you just starting this for the sole reason to point out something that Obama did not follow through with? The Federal Government will never (atleast not anytime soon) legalize marijuana use, they make too much money from it being illegal.

So I don't think this is something Obama failed at, I think he was just naive in thinking that he would be the one to change the federal perception on marijuana use.

What Obama discovered, and what so many lay-people fail to realize, it that no one person can go in and change anything. There are forces and powers and pressure and probably stuff we aren't even privy too going on behind the scenes. Deals are cut, compromises are made, favors are owed, and nothing gets done the way we want becasue everyone wants it a different way and everyone has a hand in it.

The charge to change Marijuana laws in the US is being led by the states. The same as it was during alcohol prohibition. Then, NY state got fed up with the amount of money & effort it took to enforce the federal prohibition and reversed course by legalizing it. The same thing is underway in Colorado & Washington State in regard to marijuana. California will lag behind because the support for legalization is too low, primarily because of the large number of growers who don't want to see the prices they get for their production to drop as they would in a legal environment.

In addition, with national polling showing continually rising levels of support among the US population, legalization will come regardless of what the feds do. At some point, enough politicians will have been voted out of office over the issue that they will start supporting it. They'll simply have no choice.

This is a generational change that I am glad to be living to see (not that I'm that old, still not 60). The madness will finally end within the next 5-10 years.

I sincerely hope no one falls for it. He received a lot of votes on promises in the last election that were broken.
