If you threaten to take away their Beer and Sports for a week, nearly every American will be rioting in the streets.

Meanwhile, if you threaten to take away their right to free speech and trial + jury you won't hear a peep from most Americans.

It is truly human nature that people will fight for their pleasures more than fight an honorable battle for principles and freedoms, but thankfully not all of us. We anesthetize ourselves with what makes us feel good. Leave the TV remote and substances alone and much of America may or may not vote, sort of thing.
You nailed it~
