I've listened to the entire radio discussion, as well as CNN's response, and BillO's later response.
How about you post something that pertains to the topic at hand, instead of cloning Bill's smear campaign?
How does telling you that the entire conversation is posted not relate to the topic? Is it that the only thing that would be relevant to you would be if I bashed O'Reilly? Who did I smear? I said the Crooks and Liars is hardly objective. You agreed and said they agree.
I'll say it again - read Bill's words, then respond.
I've already read the ENTIRE TRANSCRIPT, which is why I did respond. And why would people who are picking up snippets from liesmatter.com be in a better position to determine O'Reilly's intent than the liberal black journalist O'Reilly was talking too?

How should his comments be interpreted, do you think?

Sounded to me like O'Reilly was talking with a black journalist about how successful black people are in many areas, and that the representation of black culture on tv is one of violence, drugs, gangs, thugs, etc. which is damaging to young black people in America when they are searching for role models.
According to Mr. Williams comments, that is exactly what they were discussing.
I'm not sure if y'all have been following the (non) story of O'Reilly's comments about dining in a Harlem restaurant. It's pretty hilarious, but sort of endemic of the fundamental schism between us.
Some people, including O'Reilly, think that what he said was innocuous. Other people think that while it may have been well-intentioned, it was rather insulting. CNN recently did a report on it, and that hurt poor Bill'O's feelings. So what does he do? He comes out with this:
Watch that clip of his response on the O'Reilly Factor, and try to hold back your laughter. So now Media Matters, NBC, MSNBC, and CNN are part of the "dark side," affiliated with MoveOn in a smear campaign against the success of Fox News.
Not to mention the inherent irony in his story to begin with. This is getting crazy. I mean, it's getting to where Springer and the day-time talk shows are more legitimate sources of news than Fox. Keep feeding the public what they need to know, BillO - I'm quite sure that those still watching your show have long ago abandoned any critical faculty they may once have had.
This CNN report is a bunch of bull. O'Reilly's words get twisted by the angry far left. CNN gets their stories from MediaMatters, a George Soros funded and controlled website.
MediaMatters is just as bad as MoveOn.org, another Soror's funded and controlled website.
If you (or CNN) thinks anything that comes out of loopey websites like MediaMatters or MoveOn.org, then you need to get a reality check. It would be no different than going to webistes that preach hatred or an Al-Quaeda site.
In fact, I think there would be less hate on an Al-Quaeda website than on MoveOn.org or MediaMatters or TheDailyKos.
Man, the far left in the USA is out of control. They think Bush is THE reason for every world problem. They think Bush is way worst than Iranian Dictator/Tyrant Admnejahad.
The expression of surprise and shock that a) blacks can be successful in this country, b) that they can run a business that "is like any other restaurant" in America, and c) that all black people aren't sagging their pants and saying motherf-er is the problem with his comments.
I understand that he's trying to have a meaningful discussion about race, and that he's trying to express to his audience that a "typical" perception of black people is misguided.
The problem?
He is routinely part of the chorus that paints black culture as being a certain way, for one. Second, his assumption that typical black culture = gangsta rap, sagging pants, poverty, and profanity is extremely problematic. Third, his expression of surprise in that blacks aren't fitting the typical mold he has expressed (or thinks that people express) is benignly racist.
Why?
Because there shouldn't be surprise when someone like BillO observes black people "acting civilized." That surprise indicates he had other expectations. What were those expectations?
That black people by and large listen to gangsta rap, cuss a lot, sag their pants, and are unable of a) operating a successful, "civilized" restaurant, and b) patronizing the restaurant in a way that you'd expect "in any other restaurant in the city."
1. Sharpton rarely impresses me in anything he says.
2. It's cute that when Sharpton is crusading for certain causes, he's an idiot, but that somehow he's legitimate when defending O'Reilly?
At any rate, I'll watch to see what he has to say. Considering the very words that O'Reilly spoke, I fail to see how Sharpton's defense will be salient.
I think his defense is salient simply because his natural tendency is to attack O'Reilley, not defend. If he chooses to defend in this case it must be because O'Reilly's position is so absurdly strong as to preclude any pretense for an attack.
I agree with you that Sharpton is an idiot based on his past campaigns. I don't think this improves his image any, nor do I feel that this lends any more credibility to his causes. I do feel that he believes that the has no choice but to defend to maintain any chance at being taken semi-seriously.
You make an excellent case for O'Reilly's innocence with your attempt to discredit Sharpton's defense in contrast to his normal attack of conservative spokespeople.
You beat me to it. Fine, he and Juan are having a friendly chat. But claiming he was being surprised it was just like any other restauarant, and nobody was swearing "motherf%$%^", etc. is condescending at best, racist at worst. The words matter, even if it was just a "joke". He is a national news correspondent and public figure. Like it or not, he is held to a higher standard. He should know better.

This is not at all an accurate representation of his views. He clearly states that he thinks there are segments of the culture (gangsta rap) that do the rest of black America a disservice.
