Human beings are still savages at heart.
As I've said elsewhere, there's a fine line between justice and revenge, and too many people cross that line too often. All that should matter is that Jerry Sandusky has been removed from society for the rest of his life, and people can now begin the healing process.

It doesn't. It's overkill.

There's no need for the university to be ashamed. The only people who need to be ashamed are the administrators who are no longer with the university.

How inconsistent can society be?

In this case, we had a serial predator preying on children, someone that had the power of celebrity and convenience over the children. He gained the confidence of parents and others because of his position in life. He had the Nonprofit link, the supply of victims, and the blessings of the unknowing.

When some at the school either heard of his crimes, or even witnessed them, the communication was bad, no follow-up. The most revered coach in sports, Paterno relayed what he had heard from the graduate assistant to top officials. A couple of those officials were charged with lying to a grand jury, and failing to notify officials. Paterno was not charged, since he did what he did. But even Paterno admitted that he should have done more, and gone all the way to authorities himself. Sad ending for perhaps the best guy there.

People lashed out against Paterno, the school, football programs everywhere. The outcry was heard in every corner or tha nation, people were outraged at this monster Sandusky.

Where, oh where have I heard this story and worse before? Where many people, just like Sandusky, preyed on innocent children and engaged in deviant acts. Upon finding out what these men were doing, their superiors systematically conspired to hide all evidence, and initiated a cover-up that involved moving the predators around. Their files were hidden, authorities never notified, and the information was know all the way to the top levels of the organization.

Instead of nearly unanimous outcries directed towards the predators and the enablers, most of the anger was directed towards victims that either sought restitution, and/or simply an acknowledgment that the crimes occurred. Warnings fell on deaf ears. The victims were not widely recognized as such, and even more recent revelations of the very same crimes have not been widely circulated or talked about like the Sandusky case is.

So while one institution is defamed and ridiculed for just not getting Sandusky out of his element sooner regardless of what they knew, another institution has had a much easier go of it. Not financially, but in the court of public opinion. Their enablers are not only the priests, bishops, cardinals, and even higher authorities, but their own Members.

One must ask themselves whether it is the outrageous crimes that Sandusky perpetrated on his victims that has them posting so fervently, or is it the combination of the once-esteemed university and football program, that in combination with a child predator makes their eyes turn red? There also exists a much larger organization, with far more numerous crimes of the same nature, that systematically enabled the abuse and crimes to go on for decades. In many circles, it still goes on. Not in one area, but Worldwide. An Irish report concluded that the Church even commissioned a report back in the 30's to determine how widespread the abuse was. They found it was of enormous magnitude, and systemic to the point of institutional felony. They had also found out that up to 2010, not much had changed.

Indeed, not much has changed. This is because the People have not changed. Although not turning a blind eye to the situation as they once did, they'd rather mutter quietly or just agree it's not good. I almost feel that Sandusky, who justly deserves what he gets, is also bearing the internal frustration and anger of those that couldn't vent properly towards an institution where high-ranking officials were actually promoted after it was learned the extent of their protection of serial child abusers. An institution so perverse in nature, that after using Statute of Limitation defenses, they actually set out to use Freedom of Religion defenses to protect their assets.

I cannot fathom a God that would have any of these people, much less Sandusky, near him after death. Sandusky is in the tier of society that tears apart the basic framework of society. With no respect for family or children, he ruined countless lives. He is but one of many. And yes, there are people that harbor them and protect them, ignoring the atrocities they commit. I'm a firm believer in consistency, which allows for an orderly society. Sitting next to Sandusky for Capital punishment, should be hundreds of priests, possibly more, along with those that covered-up their crimes and shifted them to other parts. I would not point my finger solely at Sandusky, I would condemn the entire lot of them together.

If you want to target the problem, and protect innocent children, that's what we all have to do.

News, Penn State coach Sandusky denies he molested children

BELLEFONTE, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, on the eve of his sentencing for molesting 10 boys, on Monday denied he committed the "alleged disgusting acts" and said his wife has been his only sex partner.

Sandusky, 68, in a taped statement carried by Penn State's student radio station, said he was wrongly convicted of 45 counts of child sex abuse, crimes for which he could spend the rest of his life behind bars after his sentencing on Tuesday in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
