Now, I like to think I am a moderate, but my "political compass" puts me left of the Dalai Lama. However, I do have a very soft big spot for country music, from Hank Williams and Marty Robbins to Waylon Jennings and Dolly Parton and Allison Krauss, and of course, bluegrass and old tymie music from the hills of Appalachia. I listen to Mountain Stage each week. Now, I don't care too much for the strutting macho stuff like Toby Keith, but most of the rest is just terrific. It's hard for me to imagine living in a country without the musical creativity of the South. And the cowboy stuff is great too. I'm a Clint Black fan, even if I don't agree with his politics.
Do any of you listen to music that is typically associated with your political adversaries. Any good ol' boys who love Rush or Run DMC or Lady Gaga? Liberals with a love of the hillbilly stuff?
Geez, I thought this was going to be a thread about "do you seriously try to view the other side's perspective on the issues and appreciate whatever advantages might exist even though you think the view you've come to is ultimately better." Figured it'd be all about reading Ayn Rand as a liberal or Noam Chomsky as a conservative, to understand the picture from multiple angles. Guess I was too optimistic.

No authors were mentioned in the OP. He/she specifically limited the topic to music.

We ask that question about once a month here. It is either a version of "Do you listen at all?"
"Have you learned anything at all?" , or (less frequently) "What opposing viewpoints do you listen to or read?"
This is much lighter. We need some fun once in a while too.
Oh, I never said Rush was like Lady Gaga, but I am guessing neither would be popular with conservatives!

Well, I'm a libertarian and I listen to everything from Queen to Britney to Rush.
