I think it's a good ruling for the younger workers who can't seem to get jobs that include health benefits.
My own son falls into that category as he's in college and working but the premiums would eat away a good chunk of his salary if he were to take their insurance so he's on mine since he's under 26.
It's also good for early retirees who don't have retirement health benefits or very high cost ones to fill in the gap until they hit 65.
It's going to hit the middle class though with the additional taxes. Someone has to pay for the subsidies and it always seems to fall on the middle class.
I do think they need to raise the cost of the penalty for not getting insurance because, as it stands now, the penalty is cheaper than a years worth of premiums.
I also think there will be some, possibly many, who opt to pay the penalty and then get insurance when they get sick to get coverage. There's nothing stopping that one.
I also think we're going to go into deficits from this and the costs will outpace the taxes collected fairly quickly with no plan B to recover. The only recourse would be for higher taxes.
Just wait until all the OWSer's have to fork out cash for something they most likely don't want right now. We are going to hear the belly aching about how they should get it for free.
Your over reacting... Your state more then likely requires auto insurance and your home financer requires you to have home owners insurance... Health insurance will be the same...
Those are ENTIRELY different matters of course. You are required to have auto insurance to protect OTHER people in the event you are in an accident. Home insurance is required by your lender to protect the asset you pledged as collateral for the money they lent you. Once you pay off the loan, there is no requirement to be insured. This over reaching health insurance mandate forces people to purchase something they may or may not want or need. It stuns me that so many of us are ok, even HAPPY, with giving our government that level of authority over our lives.
All the president has to do is tell the IRS by exec order to selectively not enforce the amount of the tax or to construct an automatic credit to neutralize the tax amount.
He said he was going to, essentially, grant everyone a waiver. That's how he can get around it, so to speak.
If such a provision exists in the law, and he has the power to use it, that may indeed get Romney more votes. I live in one of those 25 States that has already opted out of setting up State Exchanges or to have anything to do with the AHCA.
Healthcare will now be directly on the backs of taxpayers and corporate America will be free of the burden. Standby for new and ever increasing taxes (on those that pay) to fund this out of control behemoth. Take a look at UK system and you get a precursor of what is in store for us.
