You can read the whole article for yourself, but here are the lowlights:
For 11 years, Pedro Zapeta, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, lived his version of the American dream in Stuart, Florida: washing dishes and living frugally to bring money back to his home country.

Absolutely disgusting journalism.
DOES ANYBODY HERE WANT TO TAKE A WILD FREAKING GUESS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU AND YOUR PROPERTY/ACCOUNTS IF YOU FAILED TO PAY ANY TAXES FOR 11 FREAKING YEARS?
Maybe he had all that cash because he was paid in cash under the table from an employer who broke the law - you know, employers, the ones who actually enable illegals and attract them...
Perhaps you cut a deal with him. Since he was washing dishes he was obviously working for a restaurant or food service organization. Find out from him who that was, and go after the employer.
Yes, the employer is a criminal too. But that doesn't excuse CNN treating this guy as a victim of our system. He is a criminal, an 11 year tax evader that probably would lose the majority of that money in penalties and back taxes if the math were all done. That is my vote, do the math, take what the IRS would take from any citizen, and give him the change thats leftover and ship him out of here.
Then go after the employer and put them out of business. If he produced pay stubs, I'm assuming they know who the employer is.
Its really sad that ILLEGAL immigration is barely being discussed by our candidates. To me it shows just how much they are being controlled by corporations who rake in profits by using illegals for labor.
Prosecution of employers, the root of the problem is what is rarely discussed. You will never, ever curtail this situation, if employers can profit from them and the illegals can find work.

The candidiates that are talking about illegals, are not being listened to, seems people go for whomever is on Tv more. Scary for America

I personally would like to see it made easier for immigrants to obtain legal status, either as a citizen, or make work visas easier to obtain and renew.
Once that is done, show absolutely no mercy for immigrants who choose the illegal route, and show no mercy for employers who do not conform and continue hiring illegals.
11 years in this country and he “speaks no English”.
11 years working in the US and has paid no taxes.
The $59k is what he has left after 11 years of living in the US and sending money to Mexico. How much did he actually make and not pay taxes on it.
Immigration should go after Pedro for tax evasion, he should be deported and banned from ever entering this country. He should have his DNA entered in a database so if he ever gets caught in this country again he would be arrested for a felony and imprisoned.
Then go after the employer and seize his business and put the owner and manager in jail.
