Ooops, didn't scroll down far enough the first time I opened.
Wasn't looking to defend Rush, quiet the opposite. I was just trying to figure out HOW wrong he was, not if he was wrong or not.
The segment looks like a typical Rush transcript, except with his cowardice statement degrading troops whom he disagrees with. He downplays other public figures who talk about Iraq by saying they don't know what they are talking about because they aren't there like the soldiers are. Then a soldier comes along and says something, so instead of discrediting the idea due to it coming from a person who hasn't been in Iraq, he discredits the soldier. Disgraceful, and I totally agree that this is right up there with Soros and the Petreaus ad in the NYT, an utter disgrace and complete disrespect.
Yes, Rush makes his living by controversy and garbage, but anybody who has been saying support the troops that doesn't dog Rush for this should be ashamed, and I would suggest people show their disgust in the ultimate fashion, turn off his stupid show.
I'm sure right wingers of Hannityland, in Congress, Free Repubic, WorthlessNet and all others will be quick to condemn Rush.
In fact, by Republican standards, no less than an official vote in Congress should be conducted to condemn Rush.
LIMBAUGH: ""Save the -- keep the troops safe' or whatever. I -- it's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.’’
CALLER: “No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.’’
Jesse Adam MacBeth is the phoney soldier Rush was referring to. He was a phoney soldier. You guys on the left verge on the silly when you cherry pick comments.
I'm sure that is in jest, but when I was in Vancouver, BC (only 2.5 hrs north of Seattle) I was talking to a member of the Canadian Sierra Club, and she had honestly no idea who Rush was!
I kinda felt bad because telling her who he was and the damage that he does to the environmental movement (righties, you'll take pride in that, the lefties will be angry)... I felt kinda like the young Bugs Bunny telling the young Elmer Fudd (who is 10 feet past the edge of the cliff) what gravity is so he then falls (remember that one? "no, I'm twoo young to know what gwafity is").
Back to the OP!
Rush not only said it (I heard the audio), he issued a statement saying that he would NOT apologize, and instead said that Democrats are the ones who needed to apologize
As BOTH a military veteran (US Marines) and someone who has been opposed to the war since the beginning (for tangible reasons, not a "blanket pacifism"), I would like to see Rush say that to my face
I don't think I'd be lying when I say that I would rip him a new hole to keep his pilonidal cyst company
I personally think we should take a page out of Jim Webb's (D-Va) recent statement, "don't politicize the military." *
*paraphrased.
Soldiers are going their job, and they have different personal POVs, just like the rest of us get paid to do jobs, and retain our thinking process...or at least I hope we do!
Rush definately owes those soldiers an apology. Though he might disagree with them about the war, or even ideologically, to call them "phony" is an outrage.
Interesting that you think a guide is necessary...
