I have to grudgingly give Walmart credit for making a smart business decision by dumping ALEC (American Legislative Exchange Council). ALEC is supposed to be a rightwing think tank, but it acts like a lobbiest, but continues to be called a non profit. ALEC focuses on making "model" bills for the state legislators that the conservative members of state legislatures introduce and then vote on. ALEC has deep pockets because of it corporate backers who like the bills because they emphasize less corporate tax, regulation, and are anti-union. More recently Alec has begun to get more into social conservative issues that have nothing to do with business and this has caused companies like Walmart, Dell, CocaCola, and Pepsi to drop their membership.
I am looking at the corporate membership and deciding how many of the corporations that I can quit using. Predictably, the corporate power is Oil and Gas Companies and Insurance companies, but there are many others. I don't see any purpose in pouring money into companies that pour money into conservative bill writers.
