I know a lot of liberals who either are or want to be in the military. Wouldn't that fit your definition of asking what you can do for your country?

We are not all the caricature you have inside your head. Get to know us and talk to us and you're find that most of what you hate about "liberals" is only in your mind.

You 're right about the New England thing. I would not frame the argument in terms of a Democrat/Republican one, rather as a Liberal/Conservative one. It may surprise many to know that even New England leans conservative.

No one said anything about being real Americans.

Agreed. And if that poster, and anyone else, turns on NPR, they will be reading the Declaration in a few minutes. I heard it earlier this morning. It was very moving.

Please turn on NPR and actually listen to the Declaration of Independence, as above. Then get out your constitution and really read it, for meaning.

Reading over all the posts on this topic its posts like yours that put forth the case for the looney right, all the leftwing posts on this topic seem sane, believable and lacking in hate and animosity.

My father was a democrat and every Holiday we'd put out the flags and have the cookout as well as listen to patriotic music, so I'd have to say watch what you say. He was an old school democrat but had no animosity to republicans. Just say liberals.
Getting back to patriotic music, Thank God for cable music channels. I can listen to patriotic music all day and not have to listen to that crap from the networks they broadcast from places like Philly, DC and NYC. July 4th has become one big street party with worn out R and B groups, hip hop losers, rap dorks and elderly rockers. I miss Ray Charles and Johnny Cash. Hey, they're playing John Phillip Sousa!

My family has been in this country since long before it became the U.S.A. My family fought in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, the first Iraq War, and in both the Iraq and Afghan wars this time around. I am the widow of a Vietnam War Marine. AND I AM A LIBERAL. Don't you dare tell me that I am "unAmerican" or that I don't love my country. When I am critical of some things that some people in my country do it is BECAUSE I love my country and do not want to see it destroyed by greed.

Yup, pretty much. There is nothing worse than fools who are upset that others have a different opinion than they do.

Yeah, good ol' Todd Allen Herendeen...another super-patriot, flag-waving "lover" of America and freedom whose biography doesn't include any time in actual, physical defense of this country.

I'm sorry, but Chickenhawks get on my friggin' nerves.
