Okay, this is a liberal trap, there's no question in my mind. The OP's full intention was to get liberals to defend his right to spend $1200/month on food, have two car payments, a house payments and numerous other out of control spending habits and then when the rubber meets the road get someone else to pay for his poor choices.
There's no way anyone spends $1200/month on food unless they're feeding a small tribe.
i had major abdominal surgery and no insurance. We had had private insurance for some time but when it got to 1200.00 per month, it had to go. We paid the surgeon prior to surgery. the hospital bill got put on a credit card and we will be paying until I/we die. This was all at age 64. We didn't stick the hospital with the bill. We have modest income from a business and have been effected by the economy but we keep slogging along. I am now almost 70.
And what you'll have with Obamacare is them dictating how much and what type of coverage is affordable for your condition. It will be rationed unless you have the CASH to go outside the system.
Absolutely ! Mr. Obama said the money was already in the healthcare system, it just wasn't being used wisely (?) or maybe that was effectively (?). He was referring to the billions he was carving out of Medicare to fund his program. Seniors will be hung out to dry, so to speak, with the new laws......but, that is the intention, IMO. Seniors will die off earlier through rationed care, younger people will be paying in and the monies don't get used so, therefore, a surplus will build up. But, trust me, the government will spend it on something else and it won't be there when you youngsters arrive at the senior citizen threshold.
The point is that they will decide to RETIRE and will not be replaced because fewer people will go into medicine because of the high cost and low reward. A smart kid might decide to be an engineer or even a veterinarian (remember no government regulated healthcare for animals). One of my doctors is mid 70s at least, raising some concern by me of who will replace him when he retires.
Nonsense. The same ratio of kids will always want to be doctors because of the prestige.
The Doomsday nonsense is just that....nonsense. Nations where doctors aren't compensated NEARLY as well as they are here still have young people that will do anything to become doctors. It'll be no different here. Hell, Cuban doctors make squat, and if you throw a rock in the air over there, it'll land on a doctor.
It's just like teachers. With all the crap teachers go through now, and after i spent 60+k sending my son to school for business, his ass decides to become a teacher. And worse, it's costing me an additional 15k to get him an M.E.

SMH....
I guess time will tell. You are not accounting for the very high debt that medical students rack up to get their MD. When they realize how long it will take to repay that debt and that a lot of the luster will be off the MD when they see what "managed care" does to their ability to treat their patients, i'm not sure that the large numbers of new doctors needed will enter the pipeline to replace those retiring. By some accounts we already do not have enough doctors to treat the aging baby boomers.
We accumilate that in 9 weeks with 6 mouths to feed including eat outs...
Sounds a tad over feeding to me...
Agreed with the priorities, I cant believe how some people live like this without any thought for health, grossely irresponsible.
It's good the doctors got you all fixed up but at least have the good sense & conscience to pay it back since you were given another chance to put right, the wrongs.

They'll take on the debt. Again, the prestige of being a doctor is simply too alluring regardless of cost. Doctors hold a special place in society...they're highly respected and people automatically ascribe good attributes to MD's.
Again, you can go to the most socialist of nations and there are still more kids trying to become docs than spaces available in school. This is in nations where the compensation isn't close to what docs receive here. I see absolutely NOTHING about that that will ever change in my lifetime.

Extremely sorry about the heart attack and I wish you a well recovery.
Why weren't you offered Charity Care? Is there a way that you can go back and speak with the administration at the hospital about this? The Charity care is supposed to be at the tax payers expense, isn't it? You're a tax payer and I'm sure you're paying your taxes. Why didn't they offer it to you at the hospital. Could you have refused to sign any release?
And yes, that's the plight of America. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
Charity Care isn't available in all states, and if it is, you need minimal assets and income. In NJ, the charity care program is such a mess.
If the paying side of the system is broken it dosen't mean a damn thing if people who depend on the system can't use it.
The OP clearly not only depended on the system but used it, despite their inability to pay for it.
