They should move to Philadelphia, I am usually in and out of the DMV in 20 minutes or less when I need to renew my drivers license (only for the picture ID we are a modern state where most things can be done online), and the staff is always friendly, courteous and exceptionally helpful, especially when you treat them with civility and courteousness. The may be "civil servants" but it seems that too many people get caught up in the "servant" part of the title.
Written by someone who has, no doubt, never had to work for a government entity and has no experience with dealing with the "colorful sorts" who breeze through the doors. If that person had to do any government job like that (DMV, court, police department front office, pet licensing office) they would become stern, unsmiling people, too. No experience dealing with the laws that have to be followed. Yah, there are workers in government who suck, but there are workers everywhere who suck.
DMV is not Nordstrom. The workers don't have to be smiling like Jack O Lanterns all the time. It's not Burger King, where you can Have It Your Way. And it's no place to go if you're in a "hurry", so no need getting panties in a wad over it taking all day. It took me several hours to get my learner's permit, too, and that was back in 1989.
ETA: "rude gubmint worker" is a joke name. Since government workers are accused of being rude, stupid, lazy and overpaid, I thought of a clicky name for myself on internet boards.
Well it's obvious the point of the story slipped past one person. Next in line please.
Well OK then Capt Obvious... Tell me what I am missing.
DMV offices are drab places with less than stellar workers (as stereotypes have it). Why do I need some clown to write an article telling me what I and everyone else with a NC drivers license has known for years?
On planet government, beurocrats are as neccesary as food and water.
