"The first segment of the line will run from Madera to Bakersfield. The final cost of the completed project from Los Angeles to San Francisco would be $68 billion."
How far is Cali in debt now? And they can spend money on this. Simply maddening. And of course the left cheers on spending others money. Pathetic
What does the debt of the city of Cali, Columbia have to do with a high speed rail in California. FYI as one who lived in California until recently, no-one calls it Cali - that is a city in another country.
The state is California... or if you want to get regional - SoCal, NorCal, I.E. etc.
When it comes to these train boondoggles, it always follows the same pattern. The total cost ends up being double or triple of the original forecast and real ridership is always about half of the projected number. Very rarely, if ever, does real ridership meet or exceed projected ridership.
I just heard a discussion on the radio yesterday on this very point. It's estimated it'll take about 30 years to reap the original investment due to low ridership.
I hope they start it tomorrow. Joe Sixpack in California has really been hosed with the bubble and construction meltdown. Getting those guys working on this huge project will get a lot of guys back to work.
Right!
Guys who build houses also build high speed rail systems.
They could have had Meg, one of the most successful businesswomen on planet earth.
Yeah, she got fired by investors from HP for gross incompetence. Sorry, but no matter how much people try to cheer lead the fact is business people tend to make very poor politicians in the US. The job skills needed to be successful are just completely different.

Sure, why not?
Actually, yes they do a large part of it.
