Excellent point, and I would also counter with the Bush administration increasing the size of the federal government more than any President since FDR. I am an advocate of a smaller constitutionally defined federal government. I look to the past and present examples of governments that try to be all things to all people, and I just don't see how it can work.

I am still awaiting the, "peace dividend" that was supposed to arrive after the fall of the Soviet Union and we wouldn't have to spend so much on our military. Ironically we ended up spending even more.
