Nugent is hard to ignore because he is such a dipcrap. Educated rockers like Eddie Vedder who say intelligent things rare get on TV these days.

Anyone who thinks the civil war was fought over the one issue of slavery is very simplistic in their views.

I think you overestimate Nugent's importance in the grand scheme of things...

The civil war was fought over many issues but slavery was one. What do you think it was fought over?

Before the war 75% of money going to the federal government was taken from southern states via tariffs. Hell Lincoln promised the northern industrialist that when he ran to raise it more. It's always about money after all. The south was also fighting for the preservation of the Constitution which Lincols didn't have much use for and his actions proved that true. Actually the New England states were the ones responisble for bringing slaves to America to begin with. Do you think thousands would go to battle to die to end slavery when they were the ones who brought it here to begin with? Hell Mass was the first state to make it legal. States actually owned fleets of ships. Then we have Lincoln who wouldn't even talk to a peace delegation from the south who spent 30 days waiting. First shots fired at Ft. Sumpter which also happened to be a tariff collection facility. I'm not a civil war "buff" by any means but it wasn't all just about freeing slaves that's for sure.

I have to admit it's adorable when yankees pretend as if they're true blue red blooded Johnny Rebels. Had the war between the states played out differently a carpetbagging Michigander like the Nuge would be strung up from the nearest oak tree if he set foot into the confederacy, regardless of his political views. People can vote republican, shoot guns, and hate minorities all they want, but there's a tribal identity that only native sons of the south will ever understand or be part of, no matter how much someone like Ted wishes that wasn't the case.

Of the 11 states that seceded,7 of them specifically mentioned slavery in their Articles Of Secession. Case closed.

You are so right but always remember that most people who actually vote are quite dumb. They listen to soundbites and most don't even know who their own senators and representatives are.
