I grew up in DC (not the good part). It taught me survival skills, common-sense and knowing how to spot BS from a mile away. I now live about 20 minutes outside of the DC line. That's good enough for me. The areas of DC where I would choose to live are too expensive and full of snobby, trust-fund folks who claim they are enlightened but they are really quite bigoted and classist.
You couldn't pay me to live in a rural area, though. No way in hell.
