From the survey:

SURVEY RESPONDENTS
  • Doctors from 45 states responded, in addition to 130 who did not provide their geographical information.
  • Most are in solo or small group practice (81%) and office-based (89%) versus hospital-based (11%).
  • Most of the doctors are mid-career (77%) and have been in practice between 11 and 30 years.

GENERAL CONCLUSIONS:
  1. Almost unanimous that medicine is on the wrong track, and overwhelmingly blame the government;
  2. Government-imposed solutions (PPACA, electronic health information) destined to fail;
  3. Highest numbers ever opting out of Medicare or refuse Medicaid;
  4. Vacuum in leadership in medical profession, feel abandoned by AMA & organized medicine;
  5. Corporate medicine (including hospital and insurance companies) is intentionally trying to destroy private practice;
  6. Doctors are pessimistic - failing financially & assume things will worsen;
  7. See doctors and patients as the solution - not government;
  8. Believe direct payment by patients will restore accountability & patient control;
  9. Restored autonomy, elimination of government involvement, increased patient responsibility and free market reforms are solutions.
KEY FINDINGS
  • 90% say the medical system is on the WRONG TRACK
  • 83% say they are thinking about QUITTING
  • 61% say the system challenges their ETHICS
  • 85% say the patient-physician relationship is in a TAILSPIN
  • 65% say GOVERNMENT INVOLVEMENT is most to blame for current problems
  • 72% say individual insurance mandate will NOT result in improved access care
  • 49% say they will STOP accepting Medicaid patients
  • 74% say they will STOP ACCEPTING Medicare patients, or leave Medicare completely
  • 52% say they would rather treat some Medicaid/Medicare patient for FREE
  • 57% give the AMA a FAILING GRADE representing them
  • 1 out of 3 doctors is HESITANT to voice their opinion
  • 2 out of 3 say they are JUST SQUEAKING BY OR IN THE RED financially
  • 95% say private practice is losing out to CORPORATE MEDICINE
  • 80% say DOCTORS/MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS are most likely to help solve things
  • 70% say REDUCING GOVERNMENT would be single best fix.

Wouldn't blame them if they did quit. Using the current mess that is Medicaid/Medicare system as an example, the system doesn't pay enough for the doctors to pay their own bills, the increased paper work, increased regulations, difficulty in complying with governement edicts that change on a whim,

Yeah I can understand them not wanting to play obamma's little game.

So what will they do, sell real estate? A person goes to college for 8 years and spends 3 years as an intern and is just going to walk away because why?

If so, then 80% thought about quitting before Obamacare.. geez
I know some doctors socially and they hated their careers before Obama ever even took office. They don't hate their careers more now; about half of them actually supported the healthcare bill and still do, while the ones who don't are primarily concerned about a potential reduction in their already substantial compensation.

Probably true but then they thought about how they would pay for the upkeep of their 4000+ sq ft house and 2nd home on the beach, the college education and BMW's for their kids, maintain the lifestyle for their wife and 82.9999999999999999% reconsidered.
My post is as close to true as the OP's...............give me a break!!

No that's not what the article says at all. Your either spreading dis-information (that you didn't even take the time to analyze yourself) or either your a liar. Pick one.

I'm independent by the way. And feel that both parties are screwing us. But lying to ourselves isn't going to get us anywhere.

Please elaborate and say exactly what it is about this association that makes it illegitimate in your eyes.

I work with several Drs and it is true, many initially believed the nonsense they had been told. But most have come to know what is actually in the Law and no longer have the baseless fear they had prior. To be sure, there are a few, who still hate Obama, but I think for more secret reasons.

The OP's a liar. The article does not say that at all.

Can we have a de-reputation button as well so that we stop getting so much mis-information on these boards?
