Ok...I'm a miserable, dirt poor black man on welfare and food stamps with 20 kids by 18 different mothers. I live in the projects, never went to school beyond the 5th grade, and I spend all my time selling dope and robbing white people.

Happy now?

Uh...maybe its because the Cold War is over.
You do know that that bit of crap you just posted will be stumbled upon by somebody some day and knowing next to nothing why you posted those words will be quoted. You need to take them back or at least try to explain what you were saying, and why..

Actually the Tea Party is a National Socialist Party. They want all the goodies and benefits of socialism for themselves and their kind (hands of my medicare, more tax dollars flowing to red states) and want increased money lavished on military and eliminate everything else, especially for minorities.

Look up where else there was a National Socialist party in history.

We do have a national socialist party in the US and they sure as hell aren't members of the Tea Party, either.

So? And? You are simply argruing from result. The colonials were British subjects who rebelled against the central government of England (I am glad they did, personally, far as that goes!) But the fact remains, they were traitors by definition. And would have been treated as such had the English won.

On the other hand, the Southerners were loyal American and thought of themselves as such, and had much better justification for going their own way. They believed in the founding principles of that government derives it powers from the consent of the governed.

Exactly the rationale used (rightfully) in the DOI. They wanted nothing from the North and made no overt move against them until highly and deliberately provoked (by the Lincoln administration), except to co-exist with one another. and even be close allies....

Freedom of speech? I don't like a lot of what some people do. Like flying a mexican flag above our own for example. I dont hear the left crying about that. Burning our flag? It isnt the tea party doing that but the left is ok with these actions. Now we hear them crying how unamerican the confederate flag is. Its just another false issue they are raising.

ROFLMAO. I can always count on you, "Boompa" to provide the comic relief.

Actually, it doesn't make much difference to me what you think as concerns "treason" and all. I couldn't care less about that. What DOES concern is that some -- given the sorry state of history teaching in todays public schools -- that some might read it and actually believe your spew.

How many times do you have to have your butt Southern fried to get the point? There was no treason and you know it. Given the climate and Radical Republican control during Reconstrution? If there was a case at all, they would have hung the whole bunch. On the other hand, they knew that they (the northern powers of the time) knew damn well they didn't have one.

So here it is again, Boompa. Read it and weep (to use poker parlance )

******************************

Burke Davis, (no relation to Jeff Davis that I know of) in his book The Long Surrender, on page 204, noted a quote by Chief Justice Salmon P. Chase, telling Edwin Stanton that:

"If you bring these leaders to trial, it will condemn the North, for by the Constitution, secession is not rebellion...His (Jeff Davis') capture was a mistake. His trial will be a greater one. We cannot convict him of treason."

Burke Davis then continued on page 214, noting that a congressional committee proposed a special court for Davis' trial, headed by Judge Franz Lieber.

Davis wrote: "After studying more than 270,000 Confederate documents, seeking evidence against Davis, the court discouraged the War Department: 'Davis will be found not guilty,' Lieber reported 'and we shall stand there completely beaten'."

What the radical Yankees and their lawyers were admitting among themselves (but quite obviously not for the historical record) was that they and Lincoln had just fought a war of aggression agains the Southern states and their people, a war that had taken or maimed the lives of over 600,000 Americans, both North and South, and they had not one shread of constitutional justification for having done so, nor had they any constitutional right to have impeded the Southern states when they chose to withdraw from a Union for which they were paying 83% of all the expenses, while getting precious little back for it, save insults from the North.
