So Romney got booed at the NAACP national convention when he used the word "Obamacare" as a term for the Affordable Care Act. Many supporters of the Affordable Care Act do not like the term "Obamacare."
Yet "Roth" IRA's and "Pell" Grants and other government programs proudly bear the names of officeholders who were instrumental in their creation.
Can anyone explain why the term "Obamacare" is not liked by supporters of the Affordable Care Act, in light of the fact that Roth IRA's and Pell Grants are not known by the titles of the laws that created them, but rather by the officeholder most associated with them?
"Obamacare" is often used as a wink wink signal by the racists and other extremists who have worked so hard to attack American values. It should really be described as Romneycare. That's what the U.S. Congress modeled it after. The ACA isn't what the President proposed. A lot of what he proposed is in it. But the Congress made it its own and incorporated long-held Republican suggestions. It's really the GOP plan, slightly modified.
He didn't get booed because he said 'Obamacare'. He got booed because he said he was going to abolish it. I'm sure that soon, there will be a thread calling the term 'Obamacare' derogatory or racist. If there is a misnomer, it's calling it 'affordable'. Cost is now at $2.7 TRILLION
Great Washington Post commentary about Romney's use of "Obamacare" at the NAACP meeting and whether or not it was racist. (Author says "no" and I agree.) This is my favorite part from the article, where she discusses the charge that Romney's use was racist:
"The notion that Team Romney wanted to jazz up all those 'very white' racists requires a level of delusion that one usually associates with the fringies. Does anyone really imagine that Romney is worried about the racist vote? While we’re hearing voices, let’s eavesdrop on a Very Secret Meeting:
'Mitt, you know, there’s one demographic we’re worried about.'
'What’s that, Stu?'
'Well, sir, the Aryan Nation. Their votes? Hanging from the precipice, sir. We have to reel them in.'
'Holy moly, Stu, but how?'
'I have a plan. When you speak to the NAACP next week, we’re gonna have you say ‘Obamacare.’ You’ll get booed, of course, but no Aryan will vote for Barack Obama, I can promise you that, sir.'
'Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat, Stu, that’s sheer genius! But won’t the liberal media figure it out? Won’t they see our plan?'
I didn't like it at first since it was only used in a mocking fashion here on the forums. Now I don't care since many have turned it into a positive and if people benefit from it and embrace it then Obama will be credited in perpetuity with doing SOMETHING to get this ball rolling. His detractors will hate that but will have no control over it. You will see Republicans try to rebrand as they tweek it in the future but it won't work, we've come too far.

Why doesn't the Tea Party like to be called Teabaggers?
Because they are too ignorant to know what he would have been talking of if he said ACA.
