She wouldn't let a mother and her kids on the bus because (she said) her transfer was expired. Another passenger on the bus called 911, an officer responded, the mother agreed to pay the fare and the driver insisted she still wanted her off the bus.
After an internal investigation, termination proceedings were started but the driver proactively chose to retire.
Hendren was the same person who stopped her bus in Hillsboro and refused to continue because a mother couldn’t stop her young child from crying.
being a bus driver is an incredibly stressful job. besides having to drive the bus, the bus driver has to deal with the passengers all day long. I'm not excusing the driver's behavior, but it is understandable given the demands they are under. besides having to drive the bus, they have to screen and check the fare of every passenger that comes on board, deal with the transfers, etc. but on light rail transit the driver doesn't have to check or screen anyone because passengers pay before boarding. the driver has no interaction with passengers at all so he can just focus on driving the damn train which is the way it should be. much safer for the passengers and a lot less stress on the driver. and less hassle for everyone.
