True, true. And yet they still tend to be very feminine. I always liked the ladies in engineering.

The guys liked that I decorated the halls for holidays and arranged birthday lunches.
I even arranged a dept outing and we went on a pontoon boat around the lake with coolers full of beer rather than a nice sit down lunch in some restaurant

When I announced I was retiring I got lots of .."But who is going to .... for us?"
I told them to go find a girl in another dept and wine and dine her to transfer

On the other hand though, I made a name for myself with regards to debugging spaghetti code and was sought out for help which I always made time for.

No doubt. But why is this "the other hand"? It's the same you.

True. What the WH wants to do with quotas is but part of a bigger picture of how they want to get an "in" with colleges. They have destroyed K-12. College is the last bastion of education because there is no slack given. You either can or you drop out. There is no "everyone is a winner" in college.
There is healthy competition to be the best because when those companies come recruiting on campus your GPA is what gets you that interview.
I've done campus recruiting (because I was a female engineer) and we had 2 piles of submitted resumes/transcripts..3.0 GPA pile and "the rest".

College is for the best and brightest in all the fields of study. Don't water it down to get some diversity numbers.
