Well yes of course -- because when your goal is to build a very government dependent, very helpless class of people who will turn to big government for all their wants and needs, what better than single women with children?
Remember --- the liberals don't believe that it takes two parents or even one competent parent to raise a child, it takes a village. They don't mean a real village either, which would be a small community of relatives and friends and neighors, they mean government. Having a father that cares about the children and provides for them gets in the way of having the government do everything.

The definition varies wildly. Just keeping your kids feed, clothed, and housed used to be enough. Now I have people cutting me dirty looks because I make my 8 year old work?
Or because my grandfather used to let me go boating by myself, drive the car 15 miles to town at 12, etc. All of which would make him incompetent in this world.
I'd like to see numbers where all, most, or even a significant number of liberals say those things BTW.

Liberals have attacked marriage for decades now. However research is confirming that raising children in single parent homes creates severe inequalities.

Well again -- now it's whatever the government decides.
The government really wants parents out of the way. Remember what ole Hillary specifically said -- it takes a "village" aka Big Government to raise a child, what do you think you know about raising a child?
A single parent can be competent obviously. Not all single parents are mooching off food stamps and Medicaid programs. Many work and work hard to support their children. That's not how the government wants it however because it prefers to reward helplessness and dependency and is doing all it can to encourage more dependency.
