I looked into this a bit because I find it interesting. So I thought I'd post a response.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United...in_Texas,_2008

"Obama, however, did win major urban counties such as Dallas, Bexar and Harris counties--home to the cities of Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston respectively. Dallas and Harris had not supported a Democrat for president since 1964, while Bexar had last gone Democratic in 1996. Liberal white voters in Dallas combined with the heavy turnout of African Americans in Houston, and Hispanic population in San Antonio helped give Obama the edge and carry these three counties. Obama also performed strongly in Travis County, which contains the state capital of Austin, and when paired with San Antonio creates the most liberal area in Texas and therefore most reliably Democratic counties in Texas. Obama also carried El Paso County, which contains the city of El Paso, due in large part to heavy support by Hispanics. Obama also carried many of the Latino-majority counties in the Rio Grande Valley along the border with Mexico, which have strongly supported Democrats for decades."

The Wikipedia page tabulates the results by county. Here are the votes by party for counties of the major cities (from above site):

Houston (Harris, Dem, 1.2 mil votes) (Fort Bend, Rep, 202K votes) (Montgomery, Rep, 160K votes)

Dallas (Dallas, Dem, 738K votes) (Collin, Rep, 297K votes) (Denton, Rep, 243K votes) (Rockwall, Rep, 32K votes) (Kaufman City, Rep 32K votes)

San Antonio (Bexar, Dem, 525K votes) (Medina, Rep, 15K votes) (Comal, Rep, 48K votes)

Austin (Travis, Dem, 387K votes) (Williamson, Rep, 158K votes) (Hays, Rep, 59K votes)

McCain took 55.39% of the popular votes and 34 Electoral votes.

Obama took 43.63% of the popular votes and no Electoral votes!

Or, perhaps, why, for that matter. That's because he doesn't want the nation's economy to prosper and thrive. He never has. Barry hates Texas because our state's economy is so good and because there are jobs here.

I live in Houston. Let me ask you this.

Without oil, where do our jobs come from?

Let's own up to the truth, fellow Texan.

Without oil, we are nothing more than a giant Mississippi.

Houston arguably is the world headquarter for energy, but let's not forget the medical/research facilities, the port of Houston, and the aerospace industry,....not to mention twenty-odd Fortune 500 companies or sixty-odd top foreign world companies with presence there. Houston is not nearly as dependent upon the oil industry as it was several decades ago.

It just gripes Obama that he can't credit for any of the low employment figures enjoyed by Houstonians.

I'll love it when Texas begins to become a swing state, With New York, California, and if Texas becomes a swing state, Republicans will be screwed unless they start kicking the far right to the curb and start playing with the moderates and the people who want to see compromise and the ability to work together come back to Congress....or DC could just go mostly blue and turn the Republicans into the minority party for good.

None of the other large cities in the state are anywhere as close to as dependent on the energy industry as Houston. In fact, pretty much none of the others are (unless you want to count Midland as a "big city"). Moreover, the energy industry is about more than just oil. And even Houston isn't 100% dependent on it anyway.

Texas has a diversified economy.

Why do you hate Texas so much if you are a Texan?

Yea, they need to wear it for their normal interactions with fellow Texans.

Every house in Texas should have a tank of the stuff.
