Couple actually moves to find work and find out their home has been stolen and end up in their relatives basement. Cops do nothing. What is worse the actual owners of the home can't go within a hundred yards of the place now because these crooks filed a restraining order with the police. So the crooks are now being protected by the law. Pathetic.

"Dayna Donovan was in for a surprise when she learned two strangers had been living in her Littleton, Colo., home for eight months. They still haven't moved out despite a judge's ruling they had to be out by the weekend. On Thursday, a judge in Arapahoe County ruled that Veronica Fernandez-Beleta and Jose Rafael Leyva-Caraveo, the two people who were living in the home, had to move out by Saturday morning. But as of Monday evening, Donovan, 43, said the two were still there.
Her husband, Troy, 45, filed for a forced eviction with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office on Monday morning, and the actual eviction could take place anywhere from two to four weeks from the date of filing.
"With any luck, the occupants will just move out and not damage the home," Dayna Donovan said. "I would rather not have to incur any more expenses and also risk them trying to accuse us of damaging or stealing any of their belongings during the eviction."
In the meantime, the Donovans and their two young daughters are staying in the basement of a relative's house in Greeley, about 65 miles away. They say they can't afford an attorney and have struggled to come up with $500 in court filing fees and gas for driving to the clerk's office throughout the legal process"

Ok...so they were several months and $20,000 behind on their mortgage, walked away and left the house unoccupied for 10 or 11 months and are surprised it isn't just sitting there waiting on them?

Gimme a break.

Gimme a break? I guess some squatters have more of a right? Your post makes no sense at all. No surprise.

2 wrongs don't make a right. One family is struggling to get by, likely by no fault of their own. The other is living rent free. Must be nice...

People who aren't paying their mortgage are living rent free. That is besides the point, the judge ordered the people in the house to pack their bags and leave.

The squatters were just using the law in their state called Adverse Possesion. Which prevented the police from getting them out right away and or charging them with tresspassing.

Funny how the law and order types whine about cops following the laws. These laws have been in place for many many years, so the premise of the OP is BS, once again.

As the article states, this is a civil matter. The judge has ruled that the people must leave ASAP.

End of thread.

I think some may think differently of the situation if they went on a vacation or had to leave the state to take care od a sick relative and when they came home, found strangers living in their home.
And to get technical, the squatters didn't only commit 'trespassing', they can be charged with 'Burglary'. By paying the utilites, the squatters also commited fraud and identity theft.

Leaving home isn't the issue here. It's leaving home AND NOT MAKING MORTGAGE PAYMENTS.
