Hmmmmmm. The private life of a politician and you forgot to mention the life of the one killed that night. Deflection sometimes fails monstrously and this time is one of those times.
Is that all you can think of, "deflection"? No, I didn't forget about the girl. If she had died any other way, the public would most certainly not have cared. It was simply because Ted Kennedy was the driver. But, as I've said, Kennedy is dead. This thread is not about liberals versus conservatives. The OP made it clear, it's about today being the date of the infamous accident 43 years ago. This thread is about what happened in the life of Ted Kennedy 43 years ago in order to try to stir up the few people remaining out there who still want to pile on Ted Kennedy. Seems like death is not enough.
And for the delusional self-Righteous it's apparently impossible to understand the sameness between driving while intoxicated and drivng while intoxicated, eh?
There isn't a difference.
Now driving off a bridge while intoxicated and killing someone and just plain driving while intoxicated - those are different things.
Certainly not to make light of the tragedy 43 years ago, however, IMO Kennedy and his family had enough tragedy in their lives that, I am sure, he lived with his negligence the rest of his life.
43 years ago today, on July 18, 1969, Senator Edward "Teddy" Kennedy (D-MA) hosted a party on Chappaquiddick Island. He left the party early with a woman named Mary Jo Kopechne. His car was found the next day, upside-down under water next to **** Bridge, with Kopechne's drowned body inside.
Kennedy said later he had made a wrong turn and drove off the bridge. He did not explain why he did not report the incident to police, nor sought help from a nearby lighted house. Kennedy never did any jail time or pay any other substantial penalty.
They both are dead.It is unlikely we will know what happened. This is a historical issue, not a current political issue.

Right.
He joked about it. A lot.
This is but one site that speaks of his sick jokes:
