The top 10 states are TX, UT, VA, NC, ND, NE, SD, CO, GA, and WY. I believe that all but two of these (NC and CO) have Republican governors and Republican legislatures, though the VA Senate was tied until recently. NC has a Republican legislature, while the CO House is Republican and many Democratic officials in the state are more moderate, pro-business Democrats.

The bottom 10 states include the blue states of CA, NJ, DE, CT, HI, and RI, as well as WV which is controlled by Democrats on the state level.

NJ has a Republican governor.

Yes. I know. But it's still a blue state. And it has a Democratic Legislature.

Having a Republican governor doesn't make a state red.

Arnold Schwarzenegger headed the executive branch in California for 7 years as a Republican and that didn't make California anything but blue.

R's need to push Rick Perry's theme of decentralizing to the states much, much more. Even if Al Sharpton does cry "racism." People will just laugh at rev. Al.

Why should a bureaucrat in DC be worrying about whether I, 3000 miles away in Bellevue WA, am getting to be overweight? If I needed a gov't worker to help me lose weight, which I don't, wouldn't it be better if he/she was within driving distance?

Why do we have the richest area of the country now centered around DC?
Beltway Earnings Make U.S. Capital Richer Than Silicon Valley - Bloomberg

What are we getting for all the money we send? Canada ranks about 6th in the world in K-12 ed performance with ZERO federal education dept. We rank about 25th, with a massive and constantly growing fed ed dept, and the 2nd most spending per student per year in the world (2nd only to Switzerland).

Turn stuff back to the states, and if a state like Cali. bollixes it up, people can vote with their feet, and move.

It is no surprise that American education started going downhill once the US got a Department of Education under Carter. (This is not denying that there were local and regional problems with education prior to the DOE being set up, but the DOE not only made those worse but created a national problem).

Perry is right on this issue. Federalism is a good thing. Under Bush, liberals discovered the beauty of federalism and states' rights, yet once Obama was in many have forgotten.

Ahhnold wasn't a Republican. He was a Democrat that had a man crush on Ronald Reagan.
